"From her early creative period until today, Miriam Vlaming (*1971) has occupied herself with the symbiosis of human and nature. While examining the relationships between human beings and natural and urban living environments, Vlaming quite frequently makes her figures disappear into their surroundings or emerge from them.HUMAN NATURE reflects Vlaming's past creative years, during which the artist has steadily developed into a visual anthropologist. The publication discusses the topic of human beings in harmony in nature, which is so central for Vlaming, as well as human nature itself.English and German text."

Vertigo?starting from the Icarus myth of antiquity, Miriam Vlaming (*1971) has created a new group of works in which she brings mankind?s ancient dream of flying and freedom together with excessive human hubris: phantomlike figures move through dreamlike landscapes and sceneries. In a dizzying frenzy, with a groundless pull into the close range and the farthest distance, Miriam Vlaming creates a fantastical pictorial world between presence and absence, history and present. 0The book contains the DVD 'Miriam Vlaming. Vor Tür und Wand' (2018), a film by Manuel Dorn, 40 min.00Exhibition: Museum Abtei Liesborn, Wadersloh, Germany (27.01. - 28.04.2019).

Miriam Vlaming's large-scale paintings are difficult to place, and not just at first glance. Even when viewed over an extended period of time, their visual reality generates surreal blank canvases. The result is a tug-of-war between abstraction and figuration, transformation and stagnation. Yet Vlaming's artistic utopias are not romantic, idyllic dream worlds. Instead, they are scenes of broken promises that question the system of remembering and exude disillusionment, abandonment and melancholy. Vlaming's method of combining image citations from well-known and distant cultural spheres, fragments from the past and present, is a common theme running through the works presented here, all of which date between 2003 and 2008.Published on the occasion of the exhibition Miriam Vlaming: You Promised Me at Kunsthalle Mannheim, September 2008- February 2009. English and German text.

This collection of moody landscapes and figure studies by the Leipzig painter Miriam Vlaming spans from 2003-2007. Essayist Jörg Böckem suggests that Vlaming's work gives shape to longing. Here, "melancholy has nothing to do with depression or misery; melancholy is a special form of luck. In Vlaming's pictures, this luck can be found."
