Once the solar energy arrives on the earth, the earth’s surface heats up and begins to emit terrestrial radiation back into the atmosphere. As carbon dioxide, water vapour, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s) and some other minor gases are nearly opaque, they obstruct or trap the outgoing terrestrial radiation or heat and makes the globe warmer than it be otherwise [John Houghton, 1997].
