Lithotripsy -

Lithotripsy - Novel Technologies, Innovations and Contemporary Applications provides a comprehensive overview of urolithiasis management. Lithotripsy, the act of stone fragmentation, achieved either extracorporeally (ESWL) or intracorporeally (ISWL), has experienced tremendous progress in the last 40 years. ESWL, using an electrohydraulic energy source, which was introduced in the early 1980s, revolutionized the management of stones for which there were very limited options besides open surgery. Two chapters in this book discuss the history of ESWL and its contemporary applications and indications. The remaining four chapters discuss intracorporeal energy sources for stone fragmentation, including pneumatic, ultrasonic, and laser sources. Whereas pneumatic and ultrasound lithotripsy are the current workhorses of endourologists, particularly in the management of large and medium-sized kidney stones, lasers, on the other hand, are predominantly used for small renal and most ureteral stones. Due to innovations and rapid developments, laser technology is quickly replacing other energy sources for most kidney stones as well.

The aim of this book is to introduce the applications of CT imaging in not only general medicine but also in different fields especially in veterinary medicine, dentistry, and engineering. Recent developments in CT technology have led to a widening of its applications on many areas like material testing in engineering, 3D evaluation of teeth, and the vascular and cardiac evaluations of small animals.

Clinical Use of Local Anesthetics

Local anesthetics are being increasingly applied in different surgeries. Lower side effects of neuroaxial anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and field block, in comparison to general anesthesia (volatile and intravenous agents), are the main reasons why physicians prefer to conduct surgeries under local anesthesia, especially in outpatient and day care surgeries. It is important to emphasize the presence of an anesthesiologist, and vigilant monitoring of the homodynamic parameters, in decreasing a patient's anxiety, exerting other modalities for analgesia and increasing the safety margin in many procedures.

Pakistan

"Pakistan is teetering on the brink. The country's staggering and lurching foreign policy has failed to evolve with changing political and geopolitical developments. The army and ISI lack coherent and long-term national security approach. The prolixity of the Afghan war and participation of Pakistan's jihadist black-water in it has blighted its social and political stratification. Its domestic policies are in a grief-stricken state. The two states (Islamic Republic and Military Establishment) have adopted different foreign, domestic and economic policies, and view neighbouring states with different glasses. The gradual radicalization of Pakistan army and its links with worldwide terrorist organizations over the last 70 years, poses a grave danger to the country's nuclear installations in terms of insider attacks. The spectrum of rogue and radicalized elements range from military officers to employees of Strategic Planning Division and officers of nuclear force. These aspects have been elaborated by the author in this book. The book can be an essential reading for every reader interested in Pakistan’s nuclear program and its threat of falling into hands of rogue elements."

Nasser and His Generation

First published in 1978 Nasser and His Generation is one of the most important books on modern Egyptian history. It goes much further than a simple history of the Nasser regime or a psychobiography of the Egyptian ruler. It examines his personality, attitudes and beliefs and how these were informed or acquired and seeks to explain what and who he was. But it also considers Nasser to be a representative of a generation of Egyptians, many of whom rode on his bandwagon to power, serve him, and then more or less promptly forgot him. The first two parts set the scene for the emergence of the military regime, highlighting the disintegration of the old political order which the Free Officers overth...
