Margarethe von Trotta (b. 1942) entered the film industry in the only way she could in the 1960s--as an actress. Across five chapters, Jennifer Carolina Gómez Menjívar identifies a series of key moments in the history of the development of this imaginary: Independence, Intervention, Cold-War, Post-Revolutionary, and Digital Age.
