Advanced Machining Processes
Advanced machining processes has significant contributions to the manufacturing industries, especially since many new invented materials have advanced properties, which are difficult to machine using conventional machining processes. Therefore, advanced machining processes take a lead in dealing with these types of material. This book focuses on electrical machining and electrical dressing processes. Chapter 1 explains the electrochemical machining (ECM), includes process parameters that involved in the ECM processes. Landslide Hazard in a Changing Environment
Landslides are one of the most dangerous geomorphological processes, responsible for losses of human lives and damages to structures, infrastructures, cultural and natural heritage. During the Anthropocene, impacts of human activity on the environment, including recent climate changes, have caused deep alterations to the natural evolution of surficial geologic processes, causing a progressive increase in in the occurrence of landslides. The goal of this Research Topic is to provide an updated overview of the progress in the field of landslide research, covering all the aspects related to the geological event: geomorphological characterization and understanding of triggering and predisposing factors, new technologies applied to the study of evolution of slope phenomena, new methodologies to foresee and mitigate landslide hazards.
Climate Change and Groundwater
There is a general consensus that for the next few decades at least, the Earth will continue its warming. This will inevitably bring about serious environmental problems. For human society, the most severe will be those related to alterations of the hydrological cycle, which is already heavily influenced by human activities. Climate change will directly affect groundwater recharge, groundwater quality and the freshwater-seawater interface. The variations of groundwater storage inevitably entail a variety of geomorphological and engineering effects. In the areas where water resources are likely to diminish, groundwater will be one of the main solutions to prevent drought. In spite of its paramount importance, the issue of 'Climate Change and Groundwater' has been neglected. This volume presents some of the current understanding of the topic.
