Ce fonds comporte des chefs-d'oeuvre tels que La samaritaine de Philippe de Champaigne ou Vénus et Adonis de Poussin. Il a été récemment complété par des acquisitions de peintres tels que La Hyre, Le Brun, Vouet ou Vignon.
Founded by William the Conqueror, the castle of Caen was 'rediscovered' after WWII, offering up more and more historical information thanks to archaeologists and historians working on the project, starting with Michel de Bouard.
