THE HEARTBEAT OF FUNDRAISING

Fundraising or fund-raising is the process of seeking and gathering voluntary financial contributions by engaging individuals, businesses, charitable foundations, or government agencies. Although fundraising typically refers to efforts to gather money for non-profit organizations, it is sometimes used to refer to the identification and solicitation of investors or other sources of capital for profit enterprises (see Wikipedia). In Kenya, fundraising especially in the name of “Harambee” has been the nerve centre of development, especially after independence. The mushrooming of self help groups, welfare groups is a clear testimony of the author’s contention. However, it is important to note that fundraising is not an event but it is a tedious journey which requires elaborate planning. In a nutshell fundraising should be treated as a process.

SOCIAL ETIQUETTE AND MANNERS

Etiquette, the complex network of rules that govern good behaviour and our social interactions is always evolving and changing as society changes. Without etiquette, members of society would show far too much impatience and disrespect for one another, which would lead to insults, dishonesty, cheating, road rage, fist fights and a rash of other unfortunate incidents. Etiquette help us show respect and consideration to others and makes others glad that we are with them. Without proper etiquette, the customs of polite society would soon disappear and we would act more like animals and less like people. Aggressiveness and an “every man for himself” and God for us all attitude would take the lead.

Powerful Proposal Powerful Presentation

Within the field of research there is no challenging task as to present your research findings through an oral presentation or what is called a defense. In the mind of the student, defense conjures an image of a fight, meeting an unfriendly audience, sadistic and ready to poke and tear your work down. Defense is simply presenting your research findings to an audience. It is not a contest. Its main objective is to find out if what you are presenting is your original work or if somebody has done it for you. Students are never quite prepared for this event as they would like to be. This rite of passage looms before them as a mysterious and unknown event, a gothic terror in its own right, someth...
