In 1971 Manual Elizalde, a Philippine government minister with a dubious background, discovered a band of twenty-six "Stone Age" rain-forest dwellers living in total isolation. The tribe was soon featured in American newscasts and graced the cover of National Geographic. But after a series of aborted anthropological ventures, the Tasaday Reserve established by Ferdinand Marcos was closed to visitors, and the tribe vanished from public view. Twelve years later, a Swiss reporter hiked into the area and discovered that the Tasaday were actually farmers whom Elizalde had coerced into dressing in leaves and posing with stone tools. The "anthropological find of the century" had become the "ethnographic hoax of the century." Or maybe not. Robin Hemley tells a story that is more complex than either the hoax proponents or the authenticity advocates might care to admit. It is a gripping and ultimately tragic tale of innocence found, lost, and found again. The author provides an afterword for this Bison Books edition.

This study considers students in a Canadian university setting and looks at their leadership and community involvement. It is the purpose of this study to examine what influences university students to get involved or not, and how post-secondary institutions can leverage the findings to influence greater student engagement and leadership development. There is such a need to have young people active in the post secondary and community space. It is important to provide a solid and positive educational experiences; however, this also needs to be balanced with experiential learning and unlocking the opportunities that are available to complement the classroom education. The realization is that by combining education and engagement, it provides a strong foundation for that student and helps them to grow personally and professionally. If the student has a memorable post-secondary experience, they will become engaged alumni.
Confucianism and its influence on culture in East Asia has profoundly impacted Chinese churches and the development of their leaders. As a cultural force it continues to affect the perceptions and practices of Chinese pastors and how they lead. This work seeks to build an indigenous approach to developing church leaders by understanding the theoretical, and the situational foundations, of relational leadership from both cultural and biblical perspectives. The research is further enriched through case studies and interviews observing the practices of leadership in contemporary Chinese churches.
