¿Cómo es el joven de estos tiempos?, se preguntan algunos, tras la influencia que ejerce esta etapa en el comportamiento humano, matizada por los constantes cambios económicos y sociales del país. Investigar la juventud es atractivo para muchos, por ser un grupo social determinante en la sociedad; pero no es solo la moda, los gustos, la educación o las inquietudes, lo que posibilita conocerla con profundidad. Es necesario tener una mirada desde las ciencias sociales, que permita apreciar mejor las realidades del ámbito donde conviven, reflexionar, dar respuestas y, por qué no, orientarlos en la vida cotidiana. Daniel Roche discusses general approaches to the history of dress, locates the subject within current French historiography and uses a large sample of inventories to explore the differences between the various social classes in the amount they spent and the kind of clothes they wore. His essential argument is that there was a 'vestimentary revolution' in the later eighteenth century as all sections of the population became caught up in the world of fashion and fast-moving consumption.
