With the sixth volume of 'Bryophyte locality data from the Near and Middle East' (Pottiaceae “Eucladium – Z” till Trachypodaceae ; families in alphabetical order), consequently all published data of mosses between are presented to provide ‒ in addition to volume 5 (Neckeraceae till Pottiaceae “A – Didymodon”) ‒ a complete data base and background for the whole area. Starting with the beginning of the collection activities (e.g., Forsskål 1775) it covers the whole period till the end of 2019 and is the first comprehensive catalogue for these organisms including Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sinai Peninsula, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Yemen (incl. Socotra). With the sixth volume, the catalogue of 'Bryophyte locality data from the Near and Middle East' allows an easy access to what is recorded and known from the different countries of the Near and Middle East.
War and Ethics in the Ancient Near East
The monograph considers the relationships of ethical systems in the ancient Near East through a study of warfare in Judah, Israel and Assyria in the eighth and seventh centuries BCE. It argues that a common cosmological and ideological outlook generated similarities in ethical thinking. In all three societies, the mythological traditions surrounding creation reflect a strong connection between war, kingship and the establishment of order. Human kings’ military activities are legitimated through their identification with this cosmic struggle against chaos, begun by the divine king at creation. Military violence is thereby cast not only as morally tolerable but as morally imperative. Deviations from this point of view reflect two phenomena: the preservation of variable social perspectives and the impact of historical changes on ethical thinking. The research begins the discussion of ancient Near Eastern ethics outside of Israel and Judah and fills a scholarly void by placing Israelite and Judahite ethics within this context, as well as contributing methodologically to future research in historical and comparative ethics.

The God Resheph in the Ancient Near East
Resheph was quite a popular god in the 3rd and 2nd millennia BC - especially in Syria - but during the 1st millennium his cult became extinct. Finally it was only maintained in several peripheral and isolated sites, such as in the Palmyra desert and in Cyprus. Maciej M. Munnich presents the written sources which mentioned Resheph and analyzes the features of Resheph's cult. He emphasizes that there is no confirmation for the theory that Resheph was a lord of the netherworld. Resheph was a belligerent, aggressive god who used diseases to attack people, but who could also heal. Because of the long period of the cult and the geographical range, one can notice some local features: In Egypt, for instance, Resheph originally was venerated as the deity supporting the Pharaoh in battles, but then he was summoned mainly because of illness and everyday needs.
Testing the Canon of Ancient Near Eastern Art and Archaeology
This volume addresses and problematizes the formation and transformation of the ancient Near Eastern art historical and archaeological canon. The 'canon' is defined as an established list of objects, monuments, buildings, and sites that are considered to be most representative of the ancient Near East. In "testing" this canon, this project takes stock of the current canon, its origins, endurance, and prospects. Boundaries and typologies are examined, technologies of canon production are investigated, and heritage perspectives on contemporary culture offer a key to the future.
