Die deutsche Handelsgerichtsbarkeit steht im Wettbewerb mit internationalen staatlichen und privaten Konfliktlosungsmechanismen. Als Reaktion wurde bereits im Jahr 2009 ein Gesetzesentwurf erarbeitet, der die Zulassung der englischen Sprache vor sogenannten Kammern fur internationale Handelssachen ermoglichen sollte. Nicole Grohmann beschaftigt sich mit der Frage, ob der Gesetzesentwurf im Jahr 2021 noch zeitgemass ist, um auf den Wettbewerb der Justizstandorte zu reagieren. Unter Berucksichtigung der Bedurfnisse internationaler wirtschaftsrechtlicher Streitigkeiten sowie durch eine Analyse der wichtigsten Handelsjustizstandorte wie London, Singapur oder Amsterdam erarbeitet sie ein Konzept fur die Internationalisierung der deutschen Handelsgerichtsbarkeit, um die Verfahrensfuhrung vor den Kammern fur Handelssachen zu optimieren, und unterbreitet einen Vorschlag fur eine wettbewerbsfahige Justiz fur nationale sowie internationale Handelssachen.

Displacement is a fundamental property of grammar. Typically, when an occurrence moves it is pronounced in only one environment. This was previously viewed as a primitive/irreducible property of grammar. Recent work, however, suggests that it follows from principled interactions between the syntactic and phonological components of grammar. As such, the phonetic character of movement chains can be seen as both a reflection of and probe into the syntax-phonology interface. This volume deals with repetition, an atypical outcome of movement operations in which displaced elements are pronounced multiple times. Although cross-linguistically rare, the phenomenon obtains robustly in Nupe, a Benue-Congo language of Nigeria. Repetition raises a tension of the descriptive-explanatory variety. In order to achieve both measures of adequacy, movement theory must be supplemented with an account of the conditions that drive and constrain multiple pronunciation. This book catalogs these conditions, bringing to light a number of undocumented aspects of Nupe grammar.
This volume offers a range of synchronic and diachronic case studies in comparative Germanic and Romance morphosyntax. These two language families, spoken by over a billion people today, have played a central role in linguistic research, but many significant questions remain about the relationship between them. Following an introduction that sets out the methodological, empirical, and theoretical background to the book, the volume is divided into three parts that deal with the morphosyntax of subjects and the inflectional layer; inversion, discourse pragmatics, and the left periphery; and continuity and variation beyond the clause. The contributors adopt a diverse range of approaches, making use of the latest digitized corpora and presenting a mixture of well-known and under-studied data from standard and non-standard Germanic and Romance languages. Many of the chapters challenge received wisdom about the relationship between these two important language families. The volume will be an indispensable resource for researchers and students in the fields of Germanic and Romance linguistics, historical and comparative linguistics, and morphosyntax.

The National Socialist arts policy denounced Otto Dix (1891–1969) and his verist oeuvre for "endangering public morality" and "adversely affecting the fighting spirit of the German people." Dix reacted by becoming a painter who oscillated in motifs and style between conservatism and critical commentary, and sought recognition despite being defamed. This forced, radical artistic transformation also led to "concealed," in part subversive or contradictory iconographies, to which this book is dedicated. The painter’s art is analyzed against the backdrop of developments in the arts policy in Germany and the Weimar Republic until into the postwar period; all genres—landscapes, portraits, and (Christian) figurative pictures—are examined.
This book presents diverse, original research studies on typical and atypical child language acquisition in monolingual, bilingual and bi-dialectal settings, with a focus on development, assessment and research methodology. Languages investigated in the studies include underrepresented languages, such as Farsi, Greek, Icelandic, isiXhosa, Maltese, Mandarin and Slovene, without excluding representative work in major languages like English and Spanish. The language areas of focus are phonology, lexicon, morphology and syntax and the book incorporates studies in under-researched language impairment, such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome and language impairment in 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome. The book has practical significance in that it proposes tools and assessment practices that are of universal crosslinguistic relevance while also dealing with language-specific complications. The studies presented enhance existing knowledge and stimulate answers on what the acquisition of disparate languages in different contexts can teach us about language/communication development in the presence or absence of disorder.
This collection of papers discusses some of the major syntactic properties of Brazilian Portuguese from a minimalist perspective. The volume focuses on movement and empty category issues and brings new empirical material on a variety of topics (null subjects and finite control, possessive and existential constructions, factive constructions, relative clauses, null objects and stress shift, preposition duplication, VP topicalization, and ellipsis). The book is of interest to a wide spectrum of linguists working on theoretical and comparative syntax.
