The Palestinian National Authority: Studies of the Experience and Performance 1994-2013
Almost twenty years after the Oslo Accords and the formation of the Palestinian National Authority (PA), there is a need to examine this experience in all its aspects, especially since it has not achieved its main goal: the transition from an autonomous authority to an independent state with full sovereignty over the 1967 occupied Palestinian territories (West Bank and Gaza Strip). This book is a comprehensive study of the PA and its experience. The 15 chapters analyze the aspects of the PA establishment and its legislative, judicial and presidential institutions, as well as the performance of successive governments. The book deals with the internal Palestinian situation, the security forces, the PA position towards the resistance forces, and economic, demographic, educational and health conditions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It also tackles the corruption in the PA, the relationship between the PA and the media, as well as its foreign policy. In order to understand the true message and spirit of the Holy Quran, it is essential to know the language it has been revealed in. The first step is to understand the meaning of individual words. One needs to understand how words were used by the ancient Arabs by the time of Quranic revelation, and not depend on anyone's explanation or understanding as to what they mean today. Along with proper understanding of Arabic grammar, the true meanings of Quranic words, and their use with respect to the context in which they have been revealed in, one student of Quran may get closer to the Truth. The task of creating a Quranic dictionary or encyclopedia that would explain the classical meanings of Quranic words and their use along with significance was undertaken by Allama Ghulam Ahmed Parwez in 1960, where he compiled Lughat-ul-Quran in Urdu language. Now this dictionary has been translated to English by Quranic Education Society in Norway, in order to appeal to a larger audience worldwide and to inspire modern Quranic students.
Mediterranean Wild Edible Plants
This book is the result of collaboration between botanists and food chemists, with the purpose of improving the knowledge of the main wild species of traditional use as foods in the Mediterranean area, focus on ethnobotanical aspects, natural production, uses and nutritional aspects. One of the novelties of the book would be the publication of complete food composition tables of more than 40 species, which are not usually included in nutrient databases of foods. Many of the data included comes from the chemical analysis of representative samples of these species and other are compiled from the scientific literature. Since this topic had not been fully studied, this book provides an interesting tool to be used with the purpose of the revalorization of wild food species, preservation of their traditional uses, and also as alternatives to improve the diversity of modern Mediterranean diets.
