A pint-sized prophet, a delinquent false muse, a recovering drug addict, an enemy of the king - and enough fairies to drive any sensible muse around the bend. Flower only needs to do two things: get Muse Champion Nikifor into Freakin Fairy rehab before he is lost in his own madness, and then go find her missing king. She certainly has no intention of smuggling hundreds of tiny troublemaking fugitives across worlds, fraternising with sworn enemies of the king, or having a pitched battle with an evil she doesn't even believe in. But on the run in hostile territory with a price on their heads, Flower and Nikifor must both face the chilling truth behind Nikifor's madness - and the terror that grips all of Shadow. Keys and Curses is Book 2 in the Dark Comic Fantasy series Shadow, and continues the battle begun in Book 1, Bloody Fairies: a pitched war between good and evil fought with blood, sweat and fairy dust.

But the trouble is only just beginning. The weapon is not where it's supposed to be. Their search is dogged by gangsters, a dodgy treasure hunter, insurgents from Shadow and a very nasty vampire intent on creating an army. There's just one thing the muse king hasn't counted on. Bloody Fairies are good at war. And she's going to make him hurt. Bloody Fairies is the first volume in Shadow, a dark comic fantasy series about death, blood, war and shiny things.

'It's Odd, The Thing's One Remembers' traces the life of Nina Ann Bentley (later Nina Ann Smith) from an idyllic childhood in 1920s England, through her service in the Royal Air Force during World War II, and on into the far more challenging decades of the second-half of the twentieth century in Canada, America, and Mexico. While her life parallels that of many thousands of women who moved across the Atlantic in search of a better life after the Second World War, there are a few extra angles – ‘the darts which fate aimed at me and adventures on which I was led’ – including the birth of two disabled children, and the struggles to deal with new countries and ways of life. There is the excitement, and frustration, of living in Washington during the Kennedy years; and the sustained tension of being on the front lines of the cold war with a husband serving on the Defence Research Staff. There is the unexpected joy of a third stage of life in the mountains and coastal villages of Mexico; followed by the challenges of caring for a paralyzed husband and an ageing disabled daughter. And woven throughout, is the story of a young love that shadows her the rest of her life.

This book follows the genealogy of the Tasker and Blackburn families who originated in the area around Goole in Yorkshire. There were branches of the Tasker family in Rawcliffe, Airmyn, Hook, Cowick and Snaith. The Blackburn family farmed at Spaldington and Holme on Spalding Moor, near Howden in the East Riding, before moving to Goole Fields. Later, members of both families lived in Goole itself. The title of the book reflects these movements. But Taskers and Blackburns married into other families, and many of them moved away. There were sizeable branches in Hull, Todmorden and other parts of Yorkshire, and one large branch as far away as Seaham Harbour in County Durham. The book includes these side branches too. The family tree on the front cover provides an overview of the content. This book is available at a discount through the print-on-demand publisher www.lulu.com
