Fatigue and Fracture of Materials and Structures
This book presents selected contributions from ICMFM XX and the Polish National Conference—KKMP. The XX International Colloquium on Mechanical Fatigue of Metals (ICMFM XX) was organized on 15–17 September 2021, in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, in Wrocław City, Poland, in a remote form. Its aim was to facilitate and encourage the exchange of knowledge and experiences among the different communities involved in both basic and applied research in the field of fatigue of metals, looking at the problem of fatigue from a multiscale perspective, and exploring analytical and numerical simulative approaches, without losing the perspectives of the application. The Polish National Conference—KKMP 2021—was organized remotely with 50–80 prominent international participants from the fracture mechanics community.
Degradation Assessment and Failure Prevention of Pipeline Systems
This book presents the results of the research project G5055 'Development of novel methods for the prevention of pipeline failures with security implications,' carried out in the framework of the NATO Science for Peace and Security program, and explores the lifecycle assessment of gas infrastructures. Throughout their service lives, pipelines transporting hydrocarbons are exposed to demanding working conditions and aggressive media. In long-term service, material aging increases the risk of damage and failure, which can be accompanied by significant economic losses and severe environmental consequences. Countering Right Wing Extremism in Education
This book investigates how schools deal with racism and extremism, focusing on everyday life, students, and the surrounding community and geographical area. There is a lack of clarity on how racism and extremism should be managed in schools. Through extensive ethnographical data, interviews, and focus group interviews with students and school staff in mill towns and racist strongholds in Sweden, this book focuses on how racism and right-wing extremism are enacted, played out, and dealt with. It draws on theories of everyday and institutional racism as well as institutional ethnography. Formal and informal school strategies and pedagogical interventions intended to manage recurring problems in schools are discussed. The text offers a deeper insight into how racism and right-wing/neo-Nazism extremism are enacted and confronted in a rural Swedish school context and beyond.
