Territorial Cohesion
This book offers a comprehensive overview of several urban related aspects that are of central importance to successful territorial cohesion processes. In essence, it sheds new light on issues concerning urban polycentrism, functional urban regions, integrated sustainable urban development, and the EU Urban Agenda; and on how they can help to achieve territorial cohesion policy goals. As an elusive and fairly recent concept, territorial cohesion has to date only been vaguely debated in the available literature, which for the most part focuses on its historical origins and its relevance for EU policymaking. Instead, this book synthesizes, for the first time, a range of perspectives that place urban elements and policies at the core of territorial cohesion analysis. The Institutionalisation of Evaluation in Europe
This book examines the progress of institutionalisation of evaluation in European countries from various perspectives. It describes both prior developments and current states of evaluation in 16 European countries and across the European Union (EU), focussing on three dimensions, namely the political, social and professional systems. These detailed country reports, which have been written by selected researchers and authors from each of the respective countries, lead to a concluding comparison and synthesis. This is the first of four volumes of the compendium The Institutionalisation of Evaluation to be followed by volumes on the Americas, Africa and Australasia. The overall aim is to provide an interdisciplinary audience with cross-country learning to enable them to better understand the institutionalisation of evaluation in different nations, world regions and different sectors.
Investments in and for Nonprofit Organizations
The value-driven nature of nonprofit organizations calls for a broader understanding of investments outside of a purely financial conceptualization. Nonprofits ultimately strive for a social return, and allocating resources to nonprofit capacities is a vital form of investments. The four chapters of this thesis examine two types of nonprofit investments, impact investing and investments in nonprofit capacities, and focus on their influencing factors and effects. The findings reveal that strategic behavior and planning are crucial management tasks. The blurring of social and financial logics offers opportunities that if accompanied by a clear strategy enhances the work of nonprofits.
