The field of low-dimensional conductors has been very active for more than twenty years. It has grown continuously and both the inorganic and organic materials have remark able properties, such as charge and spin density waves and superconductivity. The discovery of superconductivity at high temperature in copper-based quasi two-dimensional conducting oxides nearly ten years ago has further enlarged the field and stimulated new research on inorganic conductors. It was obviously impossible to cover such a broad field in a ten day Institute and it seemed pertinent to concentrate on inorganic conductors, excluding the high Tc superconducting oxides. In this context, it was highly desirable to i...
The material in this book is based on invited and contributed pa pers presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on INon-stoichio l metric Compounds held in Ringberg Castle, Rottach-Egern (Bavarian Alps), Germany, July 3-9, 1988. The workshop followed previous meetings held in Mogilany, Poland (1980), Alenya, France (1982), Penn State, USA (1984) and Keele University, UK (1986). The aim of these workshops is to present and discuss up-to-date knowledge in the study of non-stoichiometry and its effect on materials properties as well as to indicate the most urgent research pathways required in this field. Since the subject of non-stoichiometry is interdisciplinary, the workshops bring tog...

XVIII Colloquium Spectroscopicum Internationale is a collection of plenary lectures presented at the 18th Colloquium Spectrospicum International, held at Grenoble, France on September 15-19, 1975. This book is composed of seven chapters, and begins with the potentials, advantages, and applications of X-ray and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The succeeding chapters deal with the design of fluorometric methods, the general aspects of the classical light sources (arc and spark) and their contributions to the accuracy of spectrochemical results, and the utility of electron microscopy for structure determination. The final chapters discuss the developments in spectroscopic instrumentation and progress in structure elucidation of natural products using some analytical techniques. This book will prove useful to analytical and organic chemists.
