John Wimber's Teaching on the Gift and Gifts of the Holy Spirit

John Wimber's contribution to fresh theological thinking was more diverse than many are aware of. As a result of his best-known publications, he is usually associated with power healing and power evangelism. But there was more to Wimber than that, including his innovative thinking on the Gift and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. This book is not a replication of his views. Rather the authors take Wimber's innovative thinking and develop it further, hopefully in a manner that reflects his instincts.Wimber chose to base his views on the Gift or reception of the Spirit on Pauline theology and the theology of Luke-Acts. He was one of the first to argue that what Paul meant by the phrase "baptism in...

Sustainable Increase of Marine Harvesting: Fundamental Mechanisms and New Concepts

"How can we increase the production and harvest of living marine resources in the new millennium? Bridging potentials and environmental constraints". This was the theme of the 1st Maricult Conference arranged in Trondheim, Norway in June 2000 in connection with termination of the Norwegian research programme Maricult (1996-2000; www.maricult.org). The intention for the conference was not only to present a state of the art overview of the research conducted as part of the programme, but also to describe other experiences and to discuss the ideas and the scientific status of the programme with the international scientific community. A total of 50 oral communications and 8 posters were presented at the conference. Sixteen of them are included in the present volume. They deal with such topics as strategies for improving marine harvest, underlying mechanisms for marine productivity, new concepts of mariculture with emphasize on mussels, and nutrient supply and environmental impact.

History of Technology Volume 16

The technical problems confronting different societies and periods, and the measures taken to solve them form the concern of this annual collection of essays. Volumes contain technical articles ranging widely in subject, time and region, as well as general papers on the history of technology. In addition to dealing with the history of technical discovery and change, History of Technology also explores the relations of technology to other aspects of life -- social, cultural and economic -- and shows how technological development has shaped, and been shaped by, the society in which it occurred.

Offering an original historical perspective on literacy work in Africa, this book examines the role of the Norwegian Lutheran mission in Madagascar and sheds light on the motivations that drove colonizing powers’ literacy work. Focusing on both colonial and independent Madagascar, Rosnes examines how literacy practices were facilitated through mission schools and the impact on the reading and writing skills to Malagasy children and youth. Analysing how literacy work influenced identity formation and power relations in the Malagasy society, the author offers new insights into the field of language and education in Africa.
