Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this very useful analysis of constitutional law in Greece provides essential information on the country’s sources of constitutional law, its form of government, and its administrative structure. Lawyers who handle transnational matters will appreciate the clarifications of particular terminology and its application. Throughout the book, the treatment emphasizes the specific points at which constitutional law affects the interpretation of legal rules and procedure. Thorough coverage by a local expert fully describes the political system, the historical background, the role of treaties, legislation, jurisprudence, an...
The Workshop on Physics at LEAR with Low Energy Cooled Anti protons was held in Erice, May 9 - 16, 1982, at the Ettore Majorana Centre for Scientific Culture, in the framework of the International School of Physics of Exotic Atoms. The Workshop was organized by a committee composed of R. Armenteros, D. Bugg, P. Dalpiaz, U. Gastaldi, K. Kilian, R. Klapisch, P. Lefevre, D. M6hl, S. Polikanov, B. Povh and J.M. Richard. It was attended by 101 physicists from 44 insti tutions and 14 countries, representing one third of the LEAR users. Thjs Workshop was the first general meeting of the LEAR commu nity after the approval of the CERN Low Energy Antiproton Ring faci lity and of the experiments schedu...
This volume provides detailed insight into the field of precision spectroscopy and fundamental physics with particles confined in traps. It comprises experiments with electrons and positrons, protons and antiprotons, antimatter and highly charged ions together with corresponding theoretical background. Such investigations represent stringent tests of quantum electrodynamics and the Standard model, antiparticle and antimatter research, test of fundamental symmetries, constants and their possible variations with time and space. They are key to various aspects within metrology such as mass measurements and time standards, as well as promising to further developments in quantum information processing. The reader obtains a valuable source of information suited for beginners and experts with an interest in fundamental studies using particle traps.
Much instrumentation has been developed for imaging the trajectories of elementary particles produced in high energy collisions. Since 1968, gaseous detectors, beginning with multiwire chambers and drift chambers, have been used for the visualisation of particle trajectories and the imaging of X-rays, neutrons, hard gamma rays, beta rays and ultraviolet photons. This book commemorates the groundbreaking research leading to the evolution of such detectors carried out at CERN by Georges Charpak, Nobel Prizewinner for Physics in 1992. Besides collecting his key papers, the book also includes original linking commentary which sets his work in the context of other worldwide research.
Aeromicrobiology provides a detailed and systematic analysis of the microbial communities and toxins collectively called bioaerosols that can be found in air. It provides information on the basics of Aeromicrobiology, the fate and transport of microorganisms in air, and the fundamental differences between intramural and extramural Aeromicrobiology. Leaning heavily on the current state of science, detailed information on the sampling and analysis of bioaerosol samples is provided. Subsequent chapters comprehensively discuss various airborne microbial groups and toxins, while the final chapter is dedicated to bioaerosol control strategies, biosafety, and biosecurity. There are limited resource...
The International School of Fusion Reactor Technology started its courses 15 years ago and since then has mantained a biennial pace. Generally, each course has developed the subject which was announced in advance at the closing of the previous course. The subject to which the present proceedings refer was chosen in violation of that rule so as to satisfy the recent and diffuse interest in cold fusion among the main European laboratories involved in controlled thermonuclear research (CTR). In the second half of 1986 we started to prepare a workshop aimed at assessing the state of the art and possibly of the perspectives of muon- catalyzed fusion. Research in this field has recently produced e...
This 1986 book, reissued as OA, gives a balanced overview of the most important topics in experimental particle physics.
This book contains the lectures of the second course devoted to bioelectro chemistry, held within the framework of the International School of Biophysics. In this course another very large field of bioelectrochemistry, i. e. the field of Membrane Phenomena, was considered, which itself consists of several different, but yet related subfields. Here again, it can be easily stated that it is impossible to give a complete and detailed picture of all membrane phenomena of biological interest in a short course of about one and half week. Therefore the same philosophy, as the one of the first course, was followed, to select a series of lectures at postgraduate level, giving a synthesis of several m...
This Seminar has been organized in Erice, in the frame of the Eloisatron project activities, with the special purpose of bringing together an interdisciplinary group of distinguished physicists with prominent interest in the development of the accelerators. Listening to the invited lectures, examining the new topics and reviewing ideas for the acceleration of particles to energies beyond those attainable in machines whose construction is under way or is now contemplated are all important moments of this Seminar that will offer to the Italian Physicists a very important opening over the scenario of the accelerators. In connection with the Eloisatron project developments future Workshop-Semina...
This volume is a collection of review articles on the most outstanding topics in heavy flavour physics. All the authors have made significant contributions to this field. The book reviews in detail the theoretical structure of heavy flavour physics within the Standard Model and its confrontation with existing experimental data. The physics of the top quark and of the Higgs play an important role in this volume. Beginning with radiative electroweak corrections and their impressive tests at LEP and hadron colliders, the book summarizes the present status of quark mixing, CP violation and rare decays. The dynamics of exclusive D- and B-meson decays, the τ-lepton physics and the newly discovered...
