The Exotic Other and Negotiation of Tibetan Self
This study examines various representations of Tibet in Tibetan and Chinese fiction from the 1980s. With its analysis of some of the first Tibetan short stories published approximately a decade after the end of the Cultural Revolution it greatly contributes to the scholarly research of the rise of modern Tibetan literature. Geoparticipatory Spatial Tools
The book explores the key factors affecting the successful implementation of public participation spatial systems in participatory planning as part of the urban governance system. It brings insight from nation-wide research in the Czech Republic and the implications to other countries in the region and beyond. The main aim of the proposed book is to analyse the state-of-the-art of using geoparticipatory tools for citizens’ participation in community decision-making process and to suggest the effective implementation of the geoparticipatory tools available in urban governance. This book explores the situation in the Czech Republic as a representative of for Eastern Bloc country, three decades after the political transition, on its way to public participation in local and urban governance. Metabolism of Drugs and Other Xenobiotics
A practice-oriented desktop reference for medical professionals, toxicologists and pharmaceutical researchers, this handbook provides systematic coverage of the metabolic pathways of all major classes of xenobiotics in the human body. The first part comprehensively reviews the main enzyme systems involved in biotransformation and how they are orchestrated in the body, while parts two to four cover the three main classes of xenobiotics: drugs, natural products, environmental pollutants. The part on drugs includes more than 300 substances from five major therapeutic groups (central nervous system, cardiovascular system, cancer, infection, and pain) as well as most drugs of abuse including nicotine, alcohol and "designer" drugs. Vietnamese Organized Crime in the Czech Republic
This book provides a complex, socio-anthropological analysis of organized crime operating in the Vietnamese diaspora in the Czech Republic, and its international implications. Currently, there are about four million people of Vietnamese descent living in this diaspora and many other countries, looking for an opportunity to improve their lives. This book draws upon original and primary research including interviews, participant observation and documentary analysis to trace the migration and history of the Vietnamese diaspora in the Czech Republic. It highlights the influence of crime, criminality and Vietnamese organized crime on the social organization and everyday life of the diaspora. It also examines the whole range of organized crime activities that they engage in and argues that they develop contemporary diasporic Asian crime networks which are shaped by the social environment of the host countries. This unique book contributes to the discourse on the changing identities of the migrants and analyses this crime in a comparative perspective - particularly focusing on Central Europe - to provide insights on migration and crime for a wider international audience.
