This book constitutes the proceedings of the 5th European Conference, EMOOCs 2017, held in Leganés, Madrid, Spain, in May 2017. The 23 full and 10 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 53 submissions. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have marked a milestone in the use of technology for education. The reach, potential, and possibilities of EMOOCs are immense. But they are not only restricted to global outreach: the same technology can be used to improve teaching on campus and training inside companies and institutions.

Theoretically, the term "script" appears to be rather ill-defined. This book clarifies the use of the term "script" in education. It approaches the term from at least three perspectives: cognitive psychology perspective, computer science perspective, and an educational perspective. Die 90er Jahre waren bestimmt durch Kriege (Afghanistankrieg, Golfkrieg 1991, Ruanda, Bosnien-Herzegowina, Kosovo). Diese und frühere Kriege sind an der Militärischen Führungsschule der ETH Zürich mit Hilfe der Simulationstechnik analysiert worden. Auf dieser Grundlage wurden für die Ausbildung der Berufsoffiziere und der Studenten der Politikwissenschaft der Universität Zürich Simulationen entwickelt, die auch im Rahmen von Übungen eingesetzt wurden. Sie stehen nun einer breiten Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung. Ihrem Einsatz bei der Lösung politischer, wirtschaftlicher und militärischer Probleme steht damit nichts mehr im Wege.
