There have been many histories of Christian art and architecture but none written be a theologian such as Kevin Seasoltz. Following a chapter on culture as the context for theology, liturgy, and art, Seasoltz surveys developments from the early church up through the conventional artistic styles and periods. Comprehensive, illuminating, ecumenical.

"The central works of Barnett Newman's oeuvre - many of which are reproduced here as full-page color plates - are the subject of an analytical study by Armin Zweite. This study not only gives a comprehensive appraisal of Newman's paintings, from his beginnings through his later works - predominantly large-format, monochromatic paintings - but also deals in detail with all of Newman's sculptures - "Here I", "Here II", and "Here III", "Broken Obelisk", "Lace Curtain for Mayor Daley", and "Zim Zum I" and "Zim Zum II"--As well as with Newman's Model for a Synagogue. The book affords a more differentiated insight into Newman's hermetic oeuvre than would ever be possible in separate treatises on individual parts or periods of Newman's work."--Jacket.

Terror Flyers

Terror Flyers examines the "lynch justice" (Lynchjustiz) committed against American airmen in Nazi Germany during World War II. Using engaging first-person accounts of downed pilots, as well as previously unused primary sources, Terror Flyers challenges the notion that such lynchings were exclusively the domain of Nazi party officials and soldiers. New evidence reveals ordinary German people executed Lynchjustiz as well. Initially occurring as a spontaneous reaction to the devastation of the Allied air campaign against the cities of the Third Reich, Lynchjustiz offered the Nazi regime a unique propaganda opportunity to harness the outrage of the German population. Fueled by inspiration from ...

Art and Soul: Flossie Peitsch

  • Categories: Art

Canadian-born and now New South Wales-based, Flossie Peitsch is both a noted visual artist and a mother of six. She is also an active community artist who has involved her family and hundreds of others in major art projects relating to Australia's history and current ways of life. Using performance and installation art techniques, as well as traditional painting and drawing - and also women's crafts of embroidery, tapestry and knitting - Flossie loses few opportunities to engage the imagination and creativity of those involved in the projects and also those who witness them. This is an intriguing and richly illustrated book focused on an extraordinarily vibrant and effective Australian artist who operates slightly outside the mainstream.
