Peacebuilding in Cyprus
Negotiations for the settlement of the Cyprus Question have resumed amidst a pressing geopolitical and economic reality. Greek and Turkish Cypriots, however, have adopted distinct interpretations of the UN designated peace plan for a bi-communal and bi-zonal federation in Cyprus. These interpretations are mainly driven by their underlying security considerations. Peace Building in Cyprus shines new light on conceptual security considerations as behavioural drivers and hindrances to the acceptance of institutional provisions for ethno-federal state building in Cyprus. Adopting a rational actor approach, Pavlos Koktsidis identifies contrasting views on selected institutional provisions, and links them to each community's security perceptions through survey data and leadership assessments. This new primary data reveals the impact of security perceptions on leadership-behaviour patterns - especially the prevalence of fear, uncertainty, and mistrust. Additional attention is paid to the impact of psychological trauma and the lack of cognitive accuracy in decision-making processes. This will be an essential read for students, scholars and policy-makers studying the Cyprus conflict.

Since the end of the Cold War, the consolidation of peace and security in south-eastern Europe has been one of the most complex and troublesome issues facing the international community. Conflict Areas in the Balkans
The situation in the Balkans, such as the solution to the status of Kosovo, is currently the largest international political problem in Europe, with the potential to burst into a world crisis regarding the Eastern - Western relations. On the other hand, a successful solution to the problem in the Balkans could serve as a model for solving the Muslim - Christian tensions elsewhere in the world. It is the intention of this book to contribute proposals for solutions to the problems of Balkans. The starting principle for the solutions to be effective is that they should come in a natural way from the people below and should not be enforced by the political elites from above. Based on self-determination of nations as a starting principle, they should encourage intra-regional cooperation among the regional entities (economic, cultural, sport, as a basis for political, social understanding and cooperation); secondly, accelerate their economic, political and social development and thirdly, as a final step enable the inclusion of the Balkan countries into the European Union.

Socioeconomic Fragmentation and Exclusion in Greece under the Crisis
This volume uses new empirical evidence and analytical ideas to study phenomena of fragmentation and exclusion threatening stability and cohesion in Greek society in the aftermath of the crisis. The contributors argue that processes of fragmentation and exclusion provoked by the crisis can be observed on both a material and an ideational level. On a material level, rising levels of unemployment, poverty and inequality have produced new social security “outsiders”, while on an ideational level, a discursive-cultural shift is documented, which has led to new understandings and categorizations of new (and old) insiders and outsiders. Moreover, the volume attests to the aspirations, but also the limitations, of spontaneous civil society mobilization to address the social crisis. Finally, the volume offers a discussion of the political management of social fragmentation and exclusion in Greece both before and after the onset of the crisis.
