Proceedings New trends and research challenges in pedagogy and andragogy NTRCPA18

On 8 February 2018, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, hosted a conference on challenges in the area of children, youth and adult education. This international scientific event was organized by the Institute of Educational Sciences of Pedagogical University of Cracow and the Faculty of Pedagogy of Charles University. The conference titled „New trends and research challenges in pedagogy and andragogy” met with great interest of researchers from Czech, Slovakia, Poland and Macedonia. During the seminar, 50 presentations were delivered by representatives from over a dozen of research centres, among them: Banska Bystrica, Bitoli, Cracow, Łodź, Poznań, Prague, Warsaw and Wrocła...

Dilemmas of the Modern Educational Discourse

This book discusses the dilemmas of modern education, with the first section presenting the whole of the system of higher education in its diversity and discussing selected aspects of higher education's functioning. The second section is devoted to considerations concerning a teacher and a student in the expanse of the modern school. Education is displayed as a complex, multi-faceted, and mosaic reality which encompasses various subjects and relations between them. (Series: Erziehungswissenschaft - Vol. 70)

Facing Diversity in Child Foreign Language Education

This edited book uses the concept of diversity in child foreign language education as a major organizing principle. Since a foreign language, most typically English, is taught globally to an increasing number of children, the variability in the process and varied learning outcomes are inescapable phenomena. This book has been constructed on the premise that heterogeneity, first, concerns young language learners, who due to the disparity in the pace of development need appropriately tailored educational solutions, and, second, it refers to a diversity of contexts in which learning takes place. The contexts can be defined on a macroscale (e.g. different countries), mesoscale (e.g. different in...

This volume contains research papers and surveys reflecting the topics discussed at the EMS Summer School on Multigraded Algebra and Applications held in Romania in August 2016. The school, which served as the 24th National School on Algebra, presented the main research directions of combinatorial commutative algebra with a strong focus on its applications in combinatorics, statistics, and biology. Recent progress in the field has led to new insights and suggested algebraic techniques for solving real-world data analysis problems. The summer school and resulting proceedings volume have raised numerous novel questions and encouraged a more interdisciplinary approach for young researchers when considering problems in pure and applied mathematical research. Featured topics in this volume include toric rings, binomial edge ideals, Betti numbers for numerical semigroup rings, and Waldschmidt constants. Researchers and graduate students interested in the developments of the field will find this book useful for their studies.

This volume contains extended abstracts outlining selected talks and other selected presentations given by participants of the workshop "Positivity and Valuations", held at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) in Barcelona from February 22nd to 26th, 2016. They include brief research articles reporting new results, descriptions of preliminary work or open problems, and the outcome of work in groups initiated during the workshop. The general subject is the application of valuation theory to positivity questions in algebraic geometry. The topics covered range from purely algebraic problems like finite generation of semigroups and algebras defined by valuations, and properties of the associated Poincaré series, to more geometric questions like resolution of singularities and properties of Newton-Okounkov bodies, linked with non-archimedean geometry and tropical geometry. The book is intended for established researchers, as well as for PhD and postdoctoral students who want to learn more about the latest advances in these highly active areas of research.

Contemporary Studies in Environment and Tourism

The tourism industry is striving hard to create attractive worlds for its customers. Both as a necessity and as a challenge, this field is overwhelmed by the imagination economy, but raises several questions about tourists, providing opportunities to move deeper into the understanding of complexities involved in relationships among tourists, tourism sites and their historical structure, and environmental sustainability. As a result of this, a serious academic interest in tourism has developed over recent decades as a complex aspect of investigation into humans and their environment. This volume brings together case studies from different parts of the world, focusing on tourism and its interactions with the environment. It provides a general outline of theoretical issues and their practicality in different industrialising countries from both the East and the West. The book will appeal to researchers involved in tourism studies and environmental interactions, as well as academicians and tourism agencies.

Bridging the Education Divide Using Social Technologies

This book explains the concept of education divide in rural India and identifies various factors that shape and sustain such a divide. In doing so, it also discusses a range of attempts undertaken to bridge the education divide. Subsequently, the book has attempted in providing a socio-technical framework towards optimally deploying social technologies for addressing the issue of education divide of marginalized communities. The proposed framework offers a transition from traditional content-centric, teacher-centric and centralized education ecosystem to a connection-centric, learner-centric and decentralized education ecosystem of the socio-digital age. It demonstrates how Internet-enabled ...
