India
The second most populous country of the world, India is a country of enormous diversity, yet its civilization and people have a remarkable unity. It endured centuries of control by, first, Islamic and later European peoples. Most recently, independent India has been faced with resource and urban overcrowding pressures.
Malawi
Landlocked Malawi is a poor agrarian Central African state stretching west along the elongated lake of the same name. The country first came to global prominence because of the explorations and anti-slavery pleas of Dr Livingstone, and once again in the 1950s, when Nyasaland, as it then was, refused to be merged by Britain with the two Rhodesias in the Central African Federation. Dr Hastings Banda led the nationalist movement, a campaign of civil disobedience that forged a nation and finally gained the fragile country independence as Malawi. Professor Decalo lists the most pertinent and recent books and articles on Malawi, and briefly refers the reader to an additional 250 works.
Micronesia
Micronesia is home to less than 500,000 people, all coming from a variety of backgrounds due to its many islands being scattered over a large area of the Pacific Ocean. This bibliography provides over 700 citations, representing a cross-section of the available literature on the subject.

Budapest
Situated on both banks of the Danube, Budapest unites the hills of Buda and the flat area of Pest. Although it was the site of a Roman outpost in the first century, the city was not created until 1873, when the towns of Obuda, Pest and Buda were joined. The united city grew quickly as one of the two capitals of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Budapest only became the capital of Hungary when the country was proclaimed a republic in 1946. The city was the centre of a popular uprising against the Hungarian Communist regime in 1956. Today, about 2 million people, representing 20% of Hungary's population, live in this cultural, political, intellectual and commercial centre.
