Quantum Chromodynamics at High Energy

Filling a gap in the current literature, this book is the first entirely dedicated to high energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD) including parton saturation and the color glass condensate (CGC). It presents groundbreaking progress on the subject and describes many problems at the forefront of research, bringing postgraduate students, theorists and interested experimentalists up to date with the current state of research in this field. The material is presented in a pedagogical way, with numerous examples and exercises. Discussion ranges from the quasi-classical McLerran–Venugopalan model to the linear BFKL and nonlinear BK/JIMWLK small-x evolution equations. The authors adopt both a theoretical and an experimental outlook, and present the physics of strong interactions in a universal way, making it useful for physicists from various subcommunities of high energy and nuclear physics, and applicable to processes studied at all high energy accelerators around the world. "This book has been designed to honor Lev Nikolaevich Lipatov, as a person and as one of the leading scientists in theoretical high energy physics. The book begins with three articles on Lev as a person, written endearingly by family members, a very close friend and Physics professor, Eugene Levin, and another outstanding scientist, Alfred Mueller. The book further collects 18 articles by several scientists who closely knew and/or collaborated with Lev. With an overarching range over various subfields, the book summarizes parts of Lev's achievements, presents new results which are based upon Lev's work, and paints an outlook on possible future developments. Lev's theoretical work has had an influential impact on phenomenology and experimental high energy physics; befittingly, this collection also includes several articles on these experimental aspects"--

In order to create a living character on the stage, the actor needs more than masterful technique. He must work on the play in a way that will enable him to understand the meaning of each of the roles in it, and the nature of the relations between these roles. Stanislavsky developed his method of working on the play and the role over many years, but because it was constantly being modified and improved, only fragments of the method were ever recorded. Now Irina and Igor Levin have systematized the method, clearly setting forth its principles and demonstrating precisely how they are put to use. Using the complete text of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard and breaking it into individual "events;" they take the reader through each situation in the play, exploring the motivations and feelings of the characters. The reader emerges with a fine understanding of the play and its roles, and with a method that can be used successfully to analyze any drama. "An excellent book, highly useful for actors and directors both in its principles and in its detailed analyses of text and subtext."—Nicholas Rudall, Court Theatre.

How to Prevent an Intermarriage

Intermarriage is more than a problem--it's an epidemic in the Jewish nation, and we must do all we can to stem the tide. This practical, down-to-earth book is designed to help parents stop their children from intermarrying. It explores the entire gamut of questions, issues, and hot points for parents who face the possibility of their children marrying out of the Jewish faith, and offers much wisdom and many important suggestions. The author, Rabbi Packouz, has spoken on national radio and television on the topic of intermarriage and Jewish survival. He is the director of Aish HaTorah Jerusalem Fund in Miami.

Does romance stand a chance between the Devil's Grandmother and Vlad the Impaler, given her age (4000 years) and his tendency to skewer those who disagree with him? But first Vlad must be expelled from hell, which is fine with Satan; Vlad refuses to accept his ordained purge until he has revenged himself on the Blungers and this is unhinging the smooth running of the underworld. But his expulsion requires the Lord God's okay. Satan devises a beautiful scheme. His beloved grandmother will find happiness. Vlad will leave hell and become dean of students at Fairweather College. Vlad is to preach to the sinful students and administrators of that place. Should the students continue in their lustful and slothful ways, they will be brought down to hell en masse. If Vlad succeeds in reforming them, he will remain as Dean. Either way, Satan wins. And, to make it even more interesting, a Blunger is teaching at that very college. A Blunger of the family against whom Vlad harbors a five-hundred year old grudge! The son of the Blunger whom the Lord God ordered to lose twenty pounds, and who has instead gained eleven! What a coup for Satan to bring a Blunger down! A Blunger? Why not all of them!

This is the gripping story of a forgotten Russia in turmoil, when the line between government and organized crime blurred into a chaotic continuum of kleptocracy, vengeance and sadism. It tells the tale of how, in the last days of 1917, a fugitive Cossack captain brashly led seven cohorts into a mutinous garrison at Manchuli, a squalid bordertown on Russia's frontier with Manchuria. The garrison had gone Red, revolted against its officers, and become a dangerous, ill-disciplined mob. Nevertheless, Cossack Captain Grigori Semionov cleverly harangued the garrison into laying down its arms and boarding a train that carried it back into the Bolsheviks' tenuous territory. Through such bold action...
