Cancer Risk Evaluation

An overview of the different approaches to cancer risk assessment of environmental factors - including "-omics" technologies, discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the methods in different fields. The main focus is on the carcinogenic effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, demonstrating the difficulties in accurately assessing those factors that may or may not pose a significant cancer risk. The book extends the view to a broader context of risk assessment, highlighting various aspects of risk management. Written by leading experts in the field, this is a resource for policy makers and professionals in health risk assessment, and public health workers, as well as oncologists and researchers in academia. Patty's Industrial Hygiene, 4 Volume Set

Since the first edition in 1948, Patty’s Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology has become a flagship publication for Wiley. In the course of its nearly six decades in print, it has evolved into a standard reference for the fields of occupational health and toxicology. The volumes on Industrial Hygiene are cornerstone reference works for chemists, engineers, toxicologists, and occupational safety personnel. Since the 5th edition was published, the field of IH has changed with personnel often working for multinational firms, self-employed, at small consulting firms. Their environment has changed and expanded, and thus also the types of information and resources required have changed. The traditional areas of interest to occupational health and safety professionals include anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of potential hazards. In addition to these, the 6th edition provides information and reliable resources to prepare for natural disasters, exposures to biological agents and potential acts of terrorism.

Advanced Flow Cytometry: Applications in Biological Research

Flow cytometry has rapidly evolved into a technique for rapid analysis of DNA content, cellular marker expression and electronic sorting of cells of interest for further investigations. Flow cytometers are being extensively used for monitoring of cellular DNA content, phenotype expression, drug transport, calcium flux, proliferation and apoptosis. Phenotypic analysis of marker expression in leukemic cells has become an important tool for diagnostic and therapeutic monitoring of patients. Recent studies have explored the use of flow cytometry for monitoring hormone receptor expression in human solid tumors and for studies in human genomics. Contributions in the current volume are based on presentations made at the First Indo-US workshop on Flow Cytometry in which experts from USA, UK and India discussed applications of flow cytometry in biological and medical research. This book will be of interest to post graduates and researchers in the fields of pathology, cytology, cell biology and molecular biology.
