Vital Dyes in Vitreoretinal Surgery

Chromovitrectomy is a novel approach to visualize the vitreous or retinal surface during vitreoretinal surgery. In recent years, the widely used indocyanine green (ICG) has made the surgical maneuver of inner limiting membrane peeling tremendously safer and efficient. Also, numerous dyes have been applied in experimental settings with promising or devastating results. This volume highlights the major clinical and experimental results of currently used novel vital dyes. The first chapters describe the transparent structure of the vitreous body and summarize historical considerations to visualize its structure by optical coherence tomography, dye injections or autologous cells during surgery a...

Skin Cancer

Three types of skin cancer account for nearly 100 per cent of all diagnosed cases. Each of these three cancers begins in a different type of cell within the skin, and each cancer is named for the type of cell in which it begins. Skin cancers are divided into one of two classes - nonmelanoma skin cancers and melanoma. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. The different types of skin cancer are: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC); Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC); Melanoma. All other skin cancers combined account for less than 1 per cent of diagnosed cases. These are classified as nonmelanoma skin cancers and include Merkel cell carcinoma, dermatofibromasarcoma protuberans, Paget's disease and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. This book examines the latest research in this field.

Photodynamic Therapy with ALA

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is increasingly being used amongst health practitioners in combating a variety of diseases. One common strategy used during this light activated process is to induce the accumulation of significant amounts of a photosensitising agent in the diseased tissue. The naturally occurring amino acid 5-aminovulinic acid (ALA) is used to produce high levels of the photosensitizer, Protoprophyin IX, in the therapy known as ALA-PDT. Written by experts in the field Photodynamic therapy with ALA outlines a variety of clinical approaches to the topic, outlining current applications. These include the use of ALA-PDT and ALA-FD (fluorescence diagnosis) in the areas of dermatology, urology, brain, otorhinolaryngology, gynaecology and gastroenterology. Also included is a chapter that comprehensively reviews the scientific principles of ALA-PDT. Primarily aimed at a clinical audience Photodynamic therapy with ALA should provide a comprehensive review and useful insight into ALA-PDT.

This book is intended to help mankind realize the many medical and agricultural benefits of enhancing the alternative cellular energy (ACE) pathway. The research stemmed from the discovery of stealth adapted viruses, which bypass cellular immunity. Stealth adapted viruses were implicated in mental illnesses over 20 years ago. The concept evoked political resistance because some stealth adapted viruses unequivocally arose as contaminants of polio vaccines and likely led to the formation of HIV, the AIDS virus. The ACE pathway is distinct from the immune system. It also fundamentally differs from cellular energy obtained from food calories. Rather the ACE pathway is an expression of a kinetic energy limiting electrostatic attraction or KELEA. The physics of KELEA needs to be actively pursued. The book consists of six-academic-style chapters followed by narratives regarding political barriers and specific disease entities. Patients support groups and other organizations will be assisted in conducting their own clinical validation studies. Let the work begin!
