Harry R. Miller Diary
Manuscript pocket diary/notebook maintained by Reverend Harry R. Miller, which documents a variety of services, religious and secular, that he provided while stationed at Fort Frunelle, Langres, France. Entries in the diary describe his duties as conducting church services, prayer meetings, bible classes, and even baptisms of soldiers. There are entries and commentary on battles, movement of troops, and his perception of relations between officers and enlisted men. Miller's duties also involved supervision of a large YMCA canteen and management of foodstuffs, cigarettes, and reading materials for servicemen. His diary notebook comments on the differences in habits between the New England "boys" and the Eastside (New York City) boys who frequent the canteen. There is also a late entry in the journal noting Miller's chance meeting with World War I hero, Major Charles White Whittlesey.
