This long out-of-print genealogical reference has become much sought after by residents of Washington County, Virginia, and the numerous scattered descendants of that county's forefathers. It is okay to be fat. This is the basic premise of fat activism, a social movement that has existed in Canada since the early 1970s. This book focuses on the earliest strands of the Canadian movement, which emerged around 1977 and ended around 1997 with the emergence of defiant performance artists Pretty, Porky, and Pissed Off. This twenty-year window loosely correlates with the rise of "second-wave" feminist organizing and thinking in the country.
The Theatre for Development (TFD) is a learning strategy in which theatre is used to encourage communities to express their own concerns and think about the causes of their problems and possible solutions. This overview contributes to both the theory and practice of Theatre for Development. The author contextualises it historically within the evolving range of development theories, strategies and practices, notably including the now widely accepted notion of participatory approaches to achieving social change.
This book offers a small contribution to ongoing feminist struggles to advance and support the reproduction and transformation of collective being-in-the-world. It explores ethnocentrism, preoccupation with theoretical issues, and a celibate indifference to (or repression of) sexual issues.
