We are old and we are young. We are near and we are far. We are connected by family and by friendships. But our true connection comes from a heart and love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is our hope and prayer that all who read this book of devotions would come to know and to love the Savior as we do. We pray that you will find hope, joy, wisdom, peace, and most of all, love, by the words that we have penned. May God's richest blessings fall freshly upon you all the days of your life. With the Love of Christ, Michelle Ellis How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! I John 3:1

White Women Getting Real About Race

For many White women teachers and teachers in training – who represent the majority of our teaching force today – the issue of race is fraught with discomfort. It may challenge assumptions, evoke a sense of guilt, or give rise to a fear of making mistakes or saying the wrong thing. This book presents the first-person stories of White women teachers who tell us not only how they have grappled with race in diverse classrooms, but how they continue to this day to be challenged by issues of color and privilege. These are no stories of heroic feats or achievement of perfection, but stories of self-disclosure that lay bare their authors’ emotions, ideas, curiosity, vulnerability, and reflecti...

The Hines Bush Family

The Hines Bush Family tells one family's tale of the American experience and aims to assist researchers who wish to pursue their own Barnwell, South Carolina roots. Recounting the challenges, choices, and triumphs of successive generations of people of color, Wilhelmena Kelly relates distant examples of wisdom and leadership that, when examined, reveal the shared history of many of today's Southerners. This volume comes with an indexed guide to old church cemeteries and long-forgotten Barnwell burial grounds, providing a name-by-name list of ancient county residents, many who have descendants now living in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., to name just a few. It also includes the only known index to 1860 Slaveholders in Barnwell County, widening the trail to further discovery.

Selling Andrew Jackson

  • Categories: Art

A thorough examination of the portrait painter who helped shape the image and reputation of an American president Selling Andrew Jackson is the first book-length study of the American portrait painter Ralph E. W. Earl, who worked as Andrew Jackson's personal artist from 1817 until Earl's death in 1838. During this period Jackson held Earl in close council, even providing him residence at the Hermitage, Jackson's home in Tennessee, and at the White House during his presidency. In this well-researched and comprehensive volume, Rachel Stephens examines Earl's role in Jackson's inner circle and the influence of his portraits on Jackson's political career and historical legacy. By investigating t...

If it were not for the vision and enterprise of Darryl F. Zanuck and 20th Century-Fox, chances are none of us would be enjoying widescreen films today. Instead, we'd still be watching movies and TV on the same postage-stamp screen that became standard when movies began to talk in 1927. This survey of Fox's contributions to the CinemaScope Revolution which that studio started back in 1953, examines no less than 140 key films (with extensive cast and technical credits, plus release details and other background information, including prizes and awards).
