The story goes that Dennis Wojda, already an established comics creator in Poland, decided to do something ambitious; he decided to tell the story of his family. He opted to do it on his webpage and planned it out to 366 panels or frames - one for every day of a year and one extra. It was hugely successful and as its popularity grew so did interest from Polish publishers. The problem was the 366 frames of the story did not really fit into any publishers idea of a graphic novel - not enough pages. So they asked him if he could expand it for a book version. Dennis had agonised for weeks before starting the project because he was going to either cut the vivid stories of his ancestors lives or just omit some of them altogether. The publisher asking for more frames meant he could cover everything he wanted to, the right way and with due respect and deference.

Mystery and Suspense in Creative Writing

Mystery and Suspense in Creative Writing presents a systematic analysis of a very important aspect of writing by integrating it with journalistic, media, and communication studies. The book examines the specific rules for creating intrigue and suspense, and confronts their universal features with selected literary texts. The individual texts emphasize the importance of understanding the emotions through transformation of various archetypes. The rules postulated by creative writing for building drama and tension in such texts often deal with this profound issue. They are thus not an end in themselves, but actually lead to more mature writing. Therefore, they essentially contribute to developing one's creative talent and communication skills. The paradigm of creative writing serves to shape the creativity of students of various disciplines, including not only literary studies and journalism, but also such diverse areas as medicine and information technology. Poland, Soviet Union, Russia

This book contains an overview of many publications by employees of the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw in the field of Eastern studies. We have selected texts on the recent history of Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union and communist rule, as well as contemporary Russia and Polish-Russian relations. By making these available to English-speaking readers, on the one hand, we want to present a small part, due to limited space, of the Eastern studies conducted by the Institute and, on the other, pay tribute to their distinguished representative, Richard Pipes. In 2019, according to the last will of this historian, scholar and sovietologist, who died on 18...

Hospital-Based Dermatopathology

This book provides a concise reference of the histologic and clinical findings of dermatologic conditions encountered in the inpatient setting. The text is divided into twenty chapters. Histopathologic images and corresponding clinical photographs facilitate clinical pathologic correlation of the conditions discussed in each chapter. Bulleted summaries for quick easy-to-read reference and diagnostic pearls are provided for each of the discussed entities. Each chapter ends with several case studies in which clinical presentation, histologic interpretation and work-up of these challenging scenarios are outlined. This book represents an international collaboration and a wealth of clinical expertise and years of experience of authors from Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America. Hospital-Based Dermatopathology is a useful diagnostic guide for general pathologists, pathology and dermatology trainees, medical students, dermatopathologists, as well as dermatologists, hospitalists, and inpatient clinicians.
