Oleh karena itu, belajar bahasa pada hakikatnya adalah belajar bagaimana berkomunikasi. Tujuan pembelajaran adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan belajar berkomunikasi baik secara lisan maupun tulisan. Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia dapat diartikan sebagai pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan peserta didik dalam berkomunikasi baik dalam bahasa lisan maupun tulisan.
