Ghosts and Skeletons
The author examines Ian Rankin's use of the gothic convention of the ghost in Black and Blue, Dead Souls, Set in Darkness, and "The Very Last Drop." In these works, ghosts and skeletons are used as metaphors for Detective Inspector John Rebus's guilt over past mistakes and for the dark past of his home city, Edinburgh. Perspectives on Ottoman studies
The present volume contains most of the papers presented at the 18th symposium of the Comite International pour les etudes preottomanes et ottomanes (CIEPO) which has taken place in Zagreb in August 2008 (83 authors from 15 countries). CIEPO is the non-profit association of more than a hundred of world's leading scholars in Ottoman studies, founded in 1973, whose meetings are open for all other researchers as well. The contributions cover a very large field (Turkey, Central and Southeastern Europe, the Middle East, from ca. 1300 to 1922), including a vast variety of topics.

Women and Gender in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and Eurasia
This is the first comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and multilingual bibliography on "Women and Gender in East Central Europe and the Balkans (Vol. 1)" and "The Lands of the Former Soviet Union (Vol. 2)" over the past millennium. The coverage encompasses the relevant territories of the Russian, Hapsburg, and Ottoman empires, Germany and Greece, and the Jewish and Roma diasporas. Topics range from legal status and marital customs to economic participation and gender roles, plus unparalleled documentation of women writers and artists, and autobiographical works of all kinds. The volumes include approximately 30,000 bibliographic entries on works published through the end of 2000, as well as web sites and unpublished dissertations. Istanbul under Allied Occupation 1918-1923
This study covers the socio-political, intellectual and institutional dynamics of underground resistance to the Allied occupation in Istanbul. The city was clearly not the seat of treason against the Nationalist struggle for independence, nor was collaboration with the occupiers what it was made out to be in Republican historiography. Above and beyond the international conjuncture in post-WWI Europe, factors that helped the Turkish Nationalists to succeed were: inter-Allied rivalries in the Near East that carried over to Istanbul; the British, French and Italians as major occupation forces, failing to establish a balance of strenght among themselves in their haste to promote respective national interests; the victors underestimating the defeated as they were engrossed with bureaucracy and were assailed by the influx of Russian refugees, Bolshevik propaganda, and the Turkish left.

Annually published since 1930, the International bibliography of Historical Sciences (IBOHS) is an international bibliography of the most important historical monographs and periodical articles published throughout the world, which deal with history from the earliest to the most recent times. The works are arranged systematically according to period, region or historical discipline, and within this classification alphabetically. The bibliography contains a geographical index and indexes of persons and authors.

Millî Mücadele'de "eğitim ordusunun yerini ve rolünü" gün ışığına çıkarmak maksadıyla kaleme alınmış olan "Kalemli Ordu"nun alanında ciddi bir boşluğu dolduracağına inanıyoruz. Millî Mücadele'nin eğitim ordusunu tanımak ve gençlerimize anlatmak zorundayız, vatanlarının kıymetlerini çok daha iyi bilsinler diye.
