We are delighted to present the 2023 Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine “Rising Stars” article collection. This collection showcases the high-quality work of internationally recognized researchers in the early stages of their independent careers. All Rising Star researchers were individually nominated by the Chief Editors of the Journal in recognition of their potential to influence the future directions in their respective fields. The work presented here highlights the diversity of research performed across the entire breadth of cardiovascular medicine, including the elucidation of fundamental biology, the development of novel diagnostics or therapeutics, computational modelling approaches, and bioengineering strategies for regeneration.

The underlying mechanisms behind aging has long been a great scientific mystery that the biomedical research community has long studied. In developed nations, as the population grows older, increases in life expectancy is increasingly limited by our relatively poor control of chronic aging-associated diseases such as arterial aging. Among age-related conditions that negatively influence longevity. Growing evidence demonstrates that arterial aging is fundamentally caused by a proinflammatory process that begins at birth and results in detrimental effects that affects every organ system. Vascular aging is the leading risk factor for quintessential cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension a...
Although uncertainty is an inherent part of life, it is universally agreed that death, as the end of an individual’s current known life, is inevitable. Yet extensive research and careful analysis of scientific literature seems to show that our existence may continue beyond what we currently understand. It is possible that we will transition through different stages, adapting to new environments and circumstances. Therefore, the future holds the potential for exciting discoveries and a deeper understanding of what it means to be alive. In an academic presentation, consultant geriatrician Dr. Kawa Amin delves into the fascinating realm of immortality and the attempts throughout history to ov...
Scientific evidence from both preclinical, and clinical studies indicates that male and female patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) exhibit different clinical, epidemiological, and pathological characteristics, with sexually dimorphic biological factors exhibiting a significant influence in the development of CVD and therapeutic responses. Sexually dimorphic physiology that contributes to sex differences in cardiovascular therapeutic responses may include; immune responses, cardio-renal health, the blood-brain barrier, coronary atherosclerosis pathology, complications of COVID-19 infections, and the interplay between psychological factors and sedentarism. Furthermore, current knowledge...
