My Sneezes Are Perfect
This collection for children, written by Rakhshan Rizwan with the help of her 6-year-old son, seems to me to be the perfect mix of fun and thoughtfulness. I loved spending time in the company of the child narrating these poems and getting his take on the world. Stand out poems are 'Moving to America', about starting to forget the language of the country where you lived before, and 'The Tooth Fairy Makes Mistakes', about a tooth fairy who leaves the money but forgets the tooth. I even liked the poem 'Poop', which is a sign of just how charming this collection is. -- Lorraine Mariner
Kashmiri Life Narratives
Kashmiri Life Narratives takes as its central focus writings -- memoirs, non-fictional and fictional Bildungsromane -- published circa 2008 by Kashmiris/Indians living in the Valley of Kashmir, India or in the diaspora. It offers a new perspective on these works by analyzing them within the framework of human rights discourse and advocacy. Literature has been an important medium for promoting the rights of marginalized Kashmiri subjects within Indian-occupied Kashmir, successfully putting Kashmir back on the global map and shifting discussion about Kashmir from the political board rooms to the international English-language book market. In discussing human rights advocacy through literature, this book also effects a radical change of perspective by highlighting positive rights (to enjoy certain things) rather than negative ones (to be spared certain things). Kashmiri life narratives deploy a language of pleasure rather than of physical pain to represent the state of having and losing rights.

The Held and the Lost
A moving collection of distinctly Australian poems about love, marriage and family life. Wain is a collection of LGBT themed poetry for teens based on retellings of Scottish myths. The collection contains stories about kelpies, selkies, and the Loch Ness Monster, alongside perhaps lesser-known mythical people and creatures, such as wulvers, Ghillie Dhu, and the Cat Sìth. These poems immerse readers in an enriching, diverse and enchanting vision of contemporary life. The poems in this collection are fun, surprising, and full of a magical mix of myth and contemporary LGBT themes - it is a perfect read for teens who are learning more about themselves, other people, and the world around them. Wain is fully illustrated in colour by Helene Boppert, and aimed at teenagers. Rachel Plummer was commissioned by LGBT Youth Scotland to write the collection, and the commission was funded by Creative Scotland. The book is accessible to all readers, Scottish and not - it comes with a glossary, which explains more about the myths in the poems. There is also a section of writing exercises to encourage young readers to write their own poems, inspired by the book.
