Hong Kong Movers and Stayers
Half a million Hong Kong residents fled their homeland during the thirteen years before Hong Kong's reversion to China in 1997. Nearly half of those returned within the next several years. In Search of an Identity
This volume traces the influences that have shaped the secondary school history curriculum during Hong Kong's prolonged political transition between the 1960s and the early 21st century, focusing especially on the relationship between history teaching and identity formation. The author's experience as a local history teacher during the mid-1990s made him conscious of the of peculiarities of the history curriculum at this time; in particular, the neglect in both syllabuses and textbooks of Hong Kong's own history, and the unique division between History and the entirely separate subject of Chinese History.

Political Theology in Chinese Society
This book provides an itinerary for studying political theology in Chinese society, including mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. It explores the changing role of religion in Chinese history, from the rise of Buddhism alongside Confucianism and Daoism, through the arrival of Christianity and Islam, to the suppression of religion under communism. Since the reform and opening period beginning in 1978, China has experienced a resurgence of religiosity, with powerful societal implications. Governing authorities have sought to regulate religious practice in line with their governing system. Comparative Education Research
Approaches and methods in comparative education research are of obvious importance, but do not always receive adequate attention. "How have conceptions and practices of sovereignty shaped how Chineseness is imagined? This ethnography addresses this question through the example of Macau, a southern Chinese city that was a Portuguese colony from the 1550s until 1999. As the Portuguese administration prepared to transfer Macau to Chinese control, it mounted a campaign to convince the city’s residents, 95 percent of whom identified as Chinese, that they possessed a “unique cultural identity” that made them different from other Chinese, and that resulted from the existence of a Portuguese state on Chinese soil.
