The Arsenic Eaters
This book investigates the widespread historical belief that the consumption of arsenic, generally known to be a deadly poison, is beneficial to one's health. Accordingly, many "poison eaters" were found among the Austrian rural population in the nineteenth century. What they were ingesting was white (arsenic trioxide) or yellow arsenic (arsenic trisulfide). It was produced by roasting arsenic-containing minerals. Arsenic eaters were robust persons, and usually of the lower class of society, wood cutters, charcoal burners, stablemen, foresters, etc. They ingested arsenic to be 'strong and healthy': to look rosy, to resist fatigue or to strengthen their physique: "See how strong and fresh I am, and what an advantage I have over you all! In times of epidemic fever or cholera, what a fright you are in, while I feel sure of never taking infection." Though being a popular custom among hard working people, arsenic eaters were very anxious to conceal the fact, particularly from medical men and priests. It was also believed that once a person became an arsenic eater, he can never stop the habit. To do so would bring rapid decline in health, leading inevitably to death.

American Origami
American Origami? is the result of six years of photographic research by Andres Gonzalez. The project closely examines the epidemic of mass shootings in American schools, interweaving first-person interviews, forensic documents, press materials, and original photographs. The book takes its reader through a visual journey of shared grief and atonement to illuminate moments of beauty and pose moral questions embedded in acts of collective healing. Bound in a unique way, the varied elements repeat and fold into each other, creating a parallel world of past and present, and showing the silenced landscape together with the personal artefacts created by those left behind.
On Abortion
'On Abortion' is the first part of Laia Abril's new long-term project, 'A History of Misogyny'. The work was first exhibited at Les Rencontres in Arles in 2016 and awarded the Prix de la Photo Madame Figaro and the Fotopress Grant. Abril documents and conceptualises the dangers and damage caused by women's lack of legal, safe and free access to abortion. She draws on the past to highlight the long, continuing erosion of women's reproductive rights through to the present-day, weaving together questions of ethics and morality, to reveal a staggering series of social triggers, stigmas, and taboos around abortion that have been largely invisible until now.

Digital Deli
Digital Deli explores the current visual vernacular and the circulation of images. In its layered architecture, the book expands the conventional structure of the page spread and sequencing as a narrative strategy. By juxtaposing images of different sizes, each photograph creates associations with fragments from other pages and becomes the texture of a new and complex image, that is more than the sum of all the photographs in the book. Through Digital Deli I comment on mainstream media and consumer culture. I appropriate the language of advertising, television, and social media to create playful but uncanny tableaus that question the rhetoric and the power structures behind that language.Ultimately the book investigates the identity of photography and challenges its conventions and the related expectations of the viewer.
The Jungle Book

Following in the footsteps of past expeditions, The Jungle Book is a visual travel diary comprising discreetly staged scenes that reveal the diverse worlds of contemporary Amazonia and its surrounding areas. Photographer Yann Gross worked with different local communities in order to explore their lives in a time of ecological disintegration. Once immersed in their domestic world, the viewer soon forgets romantic cliches of forgotten lands and noble savages, and begins to question the guiding ideals of progress and development that inform escapist fantasies of the global south."

Caspian: The Elements is Chloe Dewe Mathews's record of her journey through the beguiling Caspian region, considering its people and geography. Far from the arena of global politics, Dewe Mathews found that materials like oil, salt, and water are involved in the mystical, practical, artistic, religious, and therapeutic aspects of daily life. Caspian: The Elements is composed of a series of visual stories exploring the link between humans and this enigmatic and much-coveted landscape.
And Time Folds
And Time Folds' accompanies a retrospective exhibition of the British photographer Vanessa Winship at the Barbican Art Gallery, London. At once intimate and epic, Winship's black-and-white photographs explore notions of borders, land, memory, desire and history. This volume comprises photographs from seven series, including projects made during a decade living in the region of the Balkans, Turkey and the Caucasus; as well as work made in Georgia, North America and the U.K. Winship has long been concerned with the elusive nature of transience in our landscape and society, and her oeuvre moves sure-footedly between genres reportage, documentary, portraiture and landscape. Alongside her luminous photographs, And Time Folds brings together personal archival material that reveals Winship's thought process, working methods, and the importance of the written word, as well as an extensive essay by the renowned photography historian David Chandler, proffering a multi-faceted view of her work and artistic trajectory.
