Robert Allen Palmer, born on 19th January 1949, Batley, West Yorkshire, England, UK was a singer-songwriter, musician & record producer, best known for his powerful, distinctive, gritty, soulful voice and sartorial elegance, combined soul, jazz, rock, pop, reggae & blues. Robert's involvement with the music industry began during the '60s, spanning 4 decades, including a period with the group Vinegar Joe. He was successful both in his solo career and with the Power Station, having had Top 10 songs in both the UK & the US in the '80s. Three of his hit singles, 'I Didn't Mean to Turn You On', 'Addicted to Love' and 'Simply Irresistible', were supported by stylish music videos directed by British fashion photographer Terence Donovan. Palmer won several awards during his career, including a couple of Grammy Awards for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance & an MTV Video Music Award, having also received 2 Brit Award nominations for Best British Male Solo Artist. He passed away at the age of 54, after having a heart attack on 26th September 2003.
