Rediscovery: Science Fiction by Women, Volume 3 (1964-1968)

Surfing the New Wave Containing 19 pieces of fiction, Rediscovery Volume 3 is particularly resonant with pieces like Sonya Dorman’s “The Deepest Blue in the World”, a prototype for The Handmaid’s Tale. And Pam Zoline’s “The Heat Death of the Universe”, which fused the New Wave and feminist science fiction. And Hilary Bailey’s alternate history masterpiece, set in a Nazi-conquered (but not subdued!) England, “The Fall of Frenchy Steiner”. With a host of Afterwords by luminaries from Seanan McGuire to Marie Vibbert, as well as a number by relatives of the authors, Rediscovery Volume 3 will be an indispensable part of every library, whether you’re a casual SF fan or a rarefied scholar!

Blount County was carved out of the territory ceded to the State by the Creek Indians following their defeat at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. The earliest settlers began streaming into the former wilderness as early as 1817. Blount was originally a large county, but over the decades pieces were taken to make up other adjoining counties such as Jefferson, Marshall, Etowah, and Cullman. Every cemetery within the contemporary boundaries of Blount was visited by the author and each readable tombstone was copied to develop the contents of this three volume series. Most of the cemeteries were read in 2002. Volume 1 covers alphabetically A through H, beginning with the Alldredge Family Cemetery and concluding with the High Rock Methodist Church Cemetery. This book is vital to any serious student of Blount County genealogy and history.

The Door in the Hedge

From ensorcelled princesses to a frog that speaks, an enchanting collection of fairy tales from the Newbery Medal–winning author. The last mortal kingdom before the unmeasured sweep of Faerieland begins has at best held an uneasy truce with its unpredictable neighbor. There is nothing to show a boundary, at least on the mortal side of it; and if any ordinary human creature ever saw a faerie—or at any rate recognized one—it was never mentioned; but the existence of the boundary and of faeries beyond it is never in doubt either. So begins “The Stolen Princess,” the first story of this collection, about the meeting between the human princess Linadel and the faerie prince Donathor. “...

Shareworthy

In today’s highly competitive marketplace, a brand must tell meaningful stories that resonate with their target audiences across media channels. People want more than a utilitarian benefit—stories are ultimately what drive us to engage with brands. And we want to align ourselves with brands that are ethical and purpose-driven and that take responsibility for their actions and messaging. This indispensable book reveals what makes brand stories “shareworthy” and guides readers through creating relevant and resonant advertising. Combining practitioner and academic perspectives, Robin Landa and Greg Braun offer a roadmap for conceiving and developing creative advertising campaigns that a...
