This invaluable volume collects papers written by many of the world's top experts on L-functions. It not only covers a wide range of topics from algebraic and analytic number theories, automorphic forms, to geometry and mathematical physics, but also treats the theory as a whole. The Jacobi group is a semidirect product of a symplectic group with a Heisenberg group. It is an important example for a non-reductive group and sets the frame within which to treat theta functions as well as elliptic functions - in particular, the universal elliptic curve. This text gathers for the first time material from the representation theory of this group in both local (archimedean and non-archimedean) cases and in the global number field case. Via a bridge to Waldspurger's theory for the metaplectic group, complete classification theorems for irreducible representations are obtained. Further topics include differential operators, Whittaker models, Hecke operators, spherical representations and theta functions. The global theory is aimed at the correspondence between automorphic representations and Jacobi forms. This volume is thus a complement to the seminal book on Jacobi forms by M. Eichler and D. Zagier. Incorporating results of the authors' original research, this exposition is meant for researchers and graduate students interested in algebraic groups and number theory, in particular, modular and automorphic forms.
In this paper, time changes of the Brownian motions on generalized Sierpinski carpets including n-dimensional cube [0,1]n are studied. Intuitively time change corresponds to alteration to density of the medium where the heat flows. In case of the Brownian motion on [0,1]n, density of the medium is homogeneous and represented by the Lebesgue measure. The author's study includes densities which are singular to the homogeneous one. He establishes a rich class of measures called measures having weak exponential decay. The authors study the moduli space of trace-free irreducible rank 2 connections over a curve of genus 2 and the forgetful map towards the moduli space of underlying vector bundles (including unstable bundles), for which they compute a natural Lagrangian rational section. As a particularity of the genus case, connections as above are invariant under the hyperelliptic involution: they descend as rank logarithmic connections over the Riemann sphere. This work is devoted to the study of rates of convergence of the empirical measures μn=1n∑nk=1δXk, n≥1, over a sample (Xk)k≥1 of independent identically distributed real-valued random variables towards the common distribution μ in Kantorovich transport distances Wp. The focus is on finite range bounds on the expected Kantorovich distances E(Wp(μn,μ)) or [E(Wpp(μn,μ))]1/p in terms of moments and analytic conditions on the measure μ and its distribution function. The study describes a variety of rates, from the standard one 1n√ to slower rates, and both lower and upper-bounds on E(Wp(μn,μ)) for fixed n in various instances. Order statistics, reduction to uniform samples and analysis of beta distributions, inverse distribution functions, log-concavity are main tools in the investigation. Two detailed appendices collect classical and some new facts on inverse distribution functions and beta distributions and their densities necessary to the investigation.

The authors investigate the dynamics of weakly-modulated nonlinear wave trains. For reaction-diffusion systems and for the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation, they establish rigorously that slowly varying modulations of wave trains are well approximated by solutions to the Burgers equation over the natural time scale. In addition to the validity of the Burgers equation, they show that the viscous shock profiles in the Burgers equation for the wave number can be found as genuine modulated waves in the underlying reaction-diffusion system. Consider representation theory associated to symmetric groups, or to Hecke algebras in type A, or to $q$-Schur algebras, or to finite general linear groups in non-describing characteristic. Rock blocks are certain combinatorially defined blocks appearing in such a representation theory, first observed by R. Rouquier. Rock blocks are much more symmetric than general blocks, and every block is derived equivalent to a Rock block. Motivated by a theorem of J. Chuang and R. Kessar in the case of symmetric group blocks of abelian defect, the author pursues a structure theorem for these blocks.
