One Moment in Time

Fifteen years ago, the world for Jill and Roger Prior halted in its tracks, with the death of their youngest daughter, Lisa, a talented ballet dancer and teacher. Their devastation, which made them wonder whether there was any point in carrying on, led them on a roller-coaster journey in their search for answers to the meaning of life. Drawn to the Spiritualist church in their quest for proof of the afterlife and the survival of the spirit after death, Jill and Roger met Stephen Holbrook, a gifted medium who was to change their lives forever. With his support, love and compassion, they have managed to move from pain and despair to rebuilding their lives and helping others through the precious knowledge they have found. Peppered with both sadness and humor, this gritty and inspiring autobiography offers those grieving the loss of a loved one a glimmer of hope of light at the end of the dark tunnel that is bereavement, and the assurance that the spirits of those that have passed away live on, can interact with us in this life, and ultimately will be reunited with us in the next.

In the 1530s, five Bassano brothers, who were outstanding wind players and instrument makers, emigrated from Venice to England. Dr Lasocki?s authoritative new book, the first to be devoted to the family, is a minutely researched account of these brothers, their sons (and a daughter) and their grandsons. The first half of the book discusses the everyday affairs of the family - their relationships, religion, property, law suits, finances, and standing in society. Two chapters, one written by Roger Prior, are devoted to Emilia Bassano, whose identification as the ?dark lady? of Shakespeare?s sonnets is supported by a wealth of evidence. The second half of the book discusses the family?s musical activities. At the English Court the Bassanos made up a recorder consort that lasted 90 years; they also played in the flute/cornett and shawm/sackbutt consorts. As instrument makers their fame was spread throughout Europe. The book?s appendixes present information on the Venetian branch of the family and the musical activities of the English branch since 1665.

Prior Roger Outlaw of Kilmainham

As many corrodians were government officials, Outlaw created a network of support within the administration which left his position virtually impregnable, even against such enemies as the powerful bishop of Ossory. Outlaw's role in the Kyteler witchcraft case and his achievements as prior and bureaucrat are looked at in the context of other Hospitaller priors and the pattern of post-holding in the fourteenth century. Against a background of war, famine, feuding and treachery a picture emerges of the way in which a socio-economic construct such as the corrody could be used to support an exceptionally successful career and create a unique community."--Jacket.

Journals of Brother Roger of Taizé

When the definitive history of Christianity in the twentieth century is written, one of the key figures will certainly be that of Roger Schutz-Marsauche (1915-2005), known as Brother Roger, the founder and first prior of the Taize Community in France. Taize is familiar to many across the world for its music and contemplative style of worship, and as a place where tens of thousands of young Christians flock each year to spend a time of prayer and reflection. What is less well-known is the underlying reality that makes all this possible: a monastic community of brothers from over twenty-five different countries and different Christian traditions striving to live as a "parable of community," a ...
