This 6th volume of the JIDR is devoted to a wide range of research themes, which are all linked to the concepts of management both implicitly and explicitly. In this issue we use a management lens to look at some fundamental questions societies face today, such as ethics, successful counselling for well-being at work, the age of digitalization in the banking industry, public policies - what matters, health and well-being and recovering from life threatening illness and lastly, gender imbalance in paid work globally. The discussions in these articles highlight several recurring and yet under-researched issues in these fields. In the coming year, it is our vision to have the JIDR continue to publish a combination of manuscripts related to the theme of diversity in international research
This book offers a comprehensive look at the current literatures and research based on empirical data from across different countries in Africa. It focuses on the work of leading scholars of management in and around Africa and the African Context, exploring whether we can at this point refer to ‘African Management’ as an emerging and distinct stream in the scholarly discourse in management. Professor Sharabi pinpoints economic, political, social, and cultural changes in the last century that led the Arab world, as well as other developing countries, not to modernity but to neopatriarchy--a modernized form of patriarchy. He shows how authentic change was blocked and distorted forms and practices subsequently came to dominate all aspects of social existence and activity--among them militant religious fundamentalism, an ideology symptomatic of neopatriarchal culture.
