Abstract: This report prepared by the House Subcommittee on Natural Resources, Agricultural Research and Environment discusses the prospects for future food production to meet the food needs of a growing worldwide population. Some topics included are population growth, environmental constraints and recommendations to alleviate the problems.
This is a print on demand edition of a hard to find publication. Projections cover agr. commodities, agr. trade, and aggregate indicators of the agr. sector, such as farm income and food prices. The projections are based on specific assumptions regarding macro-economic conditions, policy, weather, and international developments. The report assumes that there are no shocks due to abnormal weather, further outbreaks of plant or animal diseases, or other factors affecting global supply and demand. The report provides a point of departure for discussion of alternative farm sector outcomes that could result under different assumptions. The projections were prepared in Oct. through Dec. 2007, reflecting a composite of model results and judgment-based analyses. Charts and tables.
