The author examines the Roosevelt-Chamberlain rivalry which got in the way of establishing early cooperation in confronting the Axis allies and places the major blame for this on the "Tory" element in Britain's leadership with Chamberlain bearing the prime responsibility. It also includes perceptive assessments of Roosevelt's foreign policy by two of the outstanding women of the 20th Century, Eleanor Roosevelt and Frances Perkins both of whom were interviewed by the author.
