Rivers and Sustainable Development

"This book presents a new conceptualization of river related policy issues, using concepts such as the Commercial and Cordon approaches to rivers and their opposite, the Ecological and Open approaches. It draws upon river related experience from across the world to substantiate and illustrate these concepts. This new conceptualization will help to connect the river policy related discussion of the experts and specialists with that of river activists and the public. This shared discussion will allow better river policy formulation. The book argues for replacing the currently dominant Commercial and Cordon approaches to rivers by the Ecological and Open approaches rivers. It shows how such a p...

There were no Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq, nor any evidences of Saddam Hussein s links with Osama bin Laden. The masquerade can no longer deceive the international community. The UN, which should have been the arbitrator, was reduced to a bystander, or worst, was gracelessly playing second fiddle to one of the most unjustifiable aggressions against a sovereign state in history. Ditto in the case of Kosovo bombings and the Palestinian crisis. Over the years the UN has become a puppet in the hands of veto-wielding Big Powers of the world. Analysing the fundamental flaws of its constitution, Nazrul Islam launches an unsparing yet well-informed condemnation of the UN and its partial poli...

The setbacks caused by COVID-19 (coronavirus) need not be permanent, and it is possible to regain the momentum and move ahead towards the SDGs. It is even possible to convert the COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity for recovering better, by directing much of the resources earmarked for recovery toward investment in promoting the SDGs. While the impact of COVID-19 for many prosperity-related SDGs was negative, its impact for many planet-related SDGs has been positive: greenhouse gas emissions declined; air and water quality improved; and nature's regeneration was witnessed in many areas. These opposite impacts revealed that current ways of achieving prosperity conflict with the health of the planet.

What is Islam s ultimate goal? Do all Muslims believe in Jihad? What are the goals of Islamic Jihad? How did we get such a whitewashed image of Islam? How is Islam a religion of peace? Is Islam compatible with democracy? Why is there so much resistance and revolt in the Islamic world? Why are they targeting Europe and the United States? Is it a war on terrorism or Islam? Why Muslims reject peace offers? Islam 9/11 and Global Terrorism is a brilliant exposition of a growing perception that post 9/11 more Muslims are taking to terrorism. It is a pioneering attempt to comprehensively examine this issue right from the theological origins of political Islam to Islamic faith, beliefs and tradition...

This is Environmental Ethics: An Introduction
