Corporations have problems dealing with the indeterminate aspects of innovation, particularly in the early ‘fuzzy front-end’ of the process. They have difficulty in reflecting upon and handling uncertainties of innovation; often exhibiting a ‘dynamic conservatism’ or a set of ‘defensive routines’ that inhibit inquiry about such contentious issues. They prefer, and are better equipped to operate within the ‘language of investment’ than the ‘language of invention’. In the language of investment, corporations select an environmental niche, and attempt to program and fabricate its future according to rational, stable assumptions and formulations. This view is closely bound to...
This book serves as an international forum focusing on the transfer of technology and the exchange of ideas that are informative and enhances the practice of technology transfer to developing and newly industrialised countries. In particular the focus is on practitioners' views, management practices and strategies toward technology transfer and evaluation of their outcomes. The internal organisation and external environment that affects these practices and strategies including public policy developments, regulatory and legal issues, and development of global trends are also discussed by the experts in the field in different forms and at different levels.
This book offers fresh perspectives on shared grammaticalization, a state whereby two or more languages have the source and the target of a grammaticalization process in common. While contact-induced grammaticalization has generated great interest in recent years, far less attention has been paid to other factors that may give rise to shared grammaticalization. This book intends to put this situation right by approaching shared grammaticalization from an integrated perspective, including areal as well as genealogical and universal motivations and by searching for ways to distinguish between these factors. The volume offers a wealth of empirical facts, presented by internationally renowned specialists, on the Transeurasian languages (i.e. Japonic, Koreanic, Tungusic, Mongolic, and Turkic) the languages in focus as well as on various other languages. Shared Grammaticalization will appeal to scholars and advanced students concerned with linguistic reconstruction, language contact and linguistic typology, and to anyone interested in grammaticalization theory.
Looks at the global issues that cause some nations to stagnate while others rush forward.
Nutraceutical, during recent decades, has emerged as a new term in the scientific literature. Synonymously used to the term nutraceuticals in literature are dietary supplements, bioactive nutrients, functional foods, etc. This book considers how nutraceutical substances are regulated in different countries; the physiological role of dietary fibers in relation to their claimed health benefits within the scope of functional foods, dietary supplements, and nutraceuticals; prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics as nutraceuticals; and the nature of a large number of phytochemicals as nutraceuticals. The book also touts fruits and vegetables as Nature’s multinutraceutical capsules, as evidenced from their beneficial health effects emerging from epidemiological studies on such diseases as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular, cancer, osteoporosis, rheumatism, diverticulitis, etc. In light of this, international launching of campaigns on health benefits as “go for 2-5” daily servings of fruits and vegetables is also considered.
This book discusses large-scale solar power systems, including an analysis of critical issues related to their design, construction and financing.
Emerging contaminants include an extensive array of synthetic chemicals in global use, such as plastic additives, microplastics, water disinfection byproducts, pharmaceuticals, man-made nanomaterials, and UV-filters. Because of their extensive use in anthropogenic activities, these chemicals are entering the environment at alarming levels as hazardous wastes and non-biodegradable substances. This book emphasizes on the comprehensive information on emerging contaminants overview, environmental occurrence, analysis, risk assessment and toxicity assessment. Environmental, legal, health concerns of the ECs have also been covered in this book. The book also features an updated status from the industrial point of view.
