Household gizmos with a mind of their own.Constant cold calls from unknown numbers. And the creeping suspicion that none of this is real.Reality, and Other Stories is a gathering of deliciously chilling entertainments - stories to be read as the evenings draw in and the days are haunted by all the ghastly schlock, uncanny technologies and absurd horrors of modern life.

In this clear and absorbing memoir John Sam Jones writes of a life lived on the edge. It is story of journeys and realisation, of acceptance and joy. From a boyhood on the coast of Wales to a traumatic period studying at Aberystwyth, to a scholarship at Berkley in California as the AIDS epidemic began to take hold before returning to Liverpool and north Wales to work in community engagement and sexual health. A journey of becoming a writer and chronicler of his experiences with award-winning books and the desire to become a campaigner for LGBT rights in Wales. The adventure of running a guest house in Barmouth where he eventually became Mayor with his husband, a German academic, who he had married after a long partnership. Three weeks after the European Referendum they put the business on the market and moved to Germany. John is still on that journey.
Who is this kindly, spiritual, and mysterious man that has lived in the community for so many years? Popular in the church as well as among the community, he seems to play a part in many lives, always willing to help out, volunteer, or be a good sounding board. In fact, John Barzeb's fishing store as a rule caters to both friends and customers, often indistinguishable, at its cozy lakeside location. John's strivings within the church and town have been perceived to be unselfish and peaceful as a rule, but suddenly, something has changed with this familiar neighbor! Young Samuel Bodden is an eight-year-old boy who enjoys the world in which he is growing up, including school and church life, h...

I was born and raised in Chatham (Cape Cod) Massachusetts. I am the youngest of fi ve children. I graduated from Chatham High School. I was married in 1985, currently living in Provo, Utah with my husband, Edmond. I worked with trouble teens and loved every minute of it. There were always challenges. I love reaching out to teenagers and giving trouble teens a little tender, loving, and care which goes a long way. Listening to them when they needed someone, trying to understand them in a way that other people could not understand where they were coming from. When I was a teenager, I use to hang around downtown. My friends and I skipped school along with breaking some laws over and over, until...
Every family has its legends and myths—a history filtered through the lens of beliefs and values and embroidered for retelling. This origin story is of the fictional Davis family, English immigrants determined to farm in Canada’s North-West Territory. It is the story of two brothers, Sam and John, whose lives are shaped and defined by their father’s ambition, political and social unrest, and the impact of wars at home and abroad. William, the family patriarch, is obsessed with breaking free of his humble beginnings, achieving his goals and proving he is more than just a “foundling.” William’s ambition generates continual conflict between his sons. His determination to succeed results in Sam narrowly escaping death as a child soldier in the North-West Rebellion of 1885 and fast-tracks John to adult responsibilities. Inspired by his father’s ambitions and need for adventure, Sam heads to South Africa’s battlefields in 1899 while John struggles to secure the family’s fortunes on the homefront. The Magpie’s Tales are of resilience and ambition, separation, love and tragedy set in Canada’s North-West at the beginning of the settlement.

Product design is becoming increasingly challenging as product complexity increases dramatically with the advent of autonomous control and the need to achieve zero emissions. Companies continue to have poor product launches with significant numbers of recall campaigns and high after-sales warranties. It is important that potential product failures are identified and fixed during the design of a product. Failure modes found after the design has matured are normally easy to find, with some being identified by the customer, but are often difficult and expensive to fix; modifying one part will often have a knock-on effect on other parts, causing other problems. Discovering failure modes early in...
