This comprehensive book provides in-depth knowledge and understanding of design rules according to Eurocode 5. It is based on the first edition of the STEP (Structural Timber Education Programme) series, which was prepared in 1995 by about 50 authors from 14 European countries. The present work updates and extends the STEP compilation and is aimed at students, structural engineers and other timber structure professionals.
Current design rules for timber joints with dowel-type fasteners require input parameters such as yield moment and withdrawal capacity, which are determined within the European framework of certification testing. Databases containing these data were assembled. A large scatter was observed. Bespoke series may deliver clear trends. If representative data is considered, these clear trends vanish. Globally valid regression equations are conservative leading to incorrect prediction of failure modes.

Yapı elamanı olarak kullanımı barınma ihtiyacının ilk ortaya çıktığı dönemlere kadar tarihlenen ahşap malzeme, yenilenebilir bir kaynak olması, ahşap yapı elemanlarının ve yapıların üretiminde kullanılan enerji miktarının az olması yanında diğer yapı malzemeleri ile karşılaştırıldığında üretim sürecinde ortaya çıkan karbondioksit miktarının sıfıra yakın değerlerde olması gibi nedenlerle günümüzde de önemini korumakta ve teknolojik gelişmelere bağlı olarak ahşap malzemenin kullanım olanaklarının artırılması çalışmaları sürdürülmektedir. Bu bağlamda, ahşap malzemenin üretim biçimleri, taşıyıcı sistem özellikleri ve bu teknolojilerin kullanıldığı güncel örneklerin incelendiği çalışma ile konut üretiminde ahşabın kullanımı konusuna bir kez daha vurgu yapılmak istenmiştir.

Neben der bekannten Holztafel- und Holzskelettbauweise entwickelten sich in den letzten Jahren verschiedene innovative Wandbausysteme aus Holz, von denen zwei im Rahmen dieser Arbeit hinsichtlich ihrer Eigenschaften unter Erdbeben untersucht wurden. In experimentellen Untersuchungen wurden einzelne Verbindungen und auch ganze Wandscheiben der Bauweisen untersucht. Das Verhalten von Verbindungen und Wandscheiben kann mit den erstellten numerischen Modellen berechnet werden.
