This book is an English translation of the authoritative autobiography by the late South Korean President Kim Dae-jung. The 2000 Nobel Peace Prize winner, often called the Asian Nelson Mandela, is best known for his tolerant and innovative “Sunshine Policy” towards North Korea. Written in the five years between the end of his presidency and his death in 2009, this book offers a poignant first-hand account of Korea’s turbulent modern history. It spans the pivotal time span between the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945) and reconciliation in the Korean Peninsula (2000-2009). In between are insightful insider descriptions of everything from wars and dictatorships to the hopeful period of economic recovery, blooming democracy, peace, and reconciliation. Conscience in Action serves as an intimate record of the Korean people’s persistent and heroic struggle for democracy and peace. It is also an inspiring story of an extraordinary individual whose formidable perseverance and selfless dedication to the values he believed in led him to triumph despite more than four decades of extreme persecution.

Highlights in Performance Science: Music Performance Anxiety

VIEW BOOK DETAILS We are pleased to introduce the collection Frontiers in Psychology – Highlights in Performance Science: Music Performance Anxiety. Music performance anxiety (MPA) has been defined as “the experience of marked and persistent anxious apprehension related to musical performance”. For musicians performing in public is a demanding activity and the MPA can cause potential debilitating effects on their career and health, regardless of age, gender, experience, practicing time, and music genre. A greater understanding of the predicting factors of MPA has implications not only for theories of MPA but also for its prevention and management and more broadly for teaching and learning. This collection will welcome and showcase a selection of articles about Music Performance Anxiety (MPA), authored by leaders in the field. The work presented here highlights the broad diversity of research performed across the Performance Science field and aims to put a spotlight on the main areas of interest. This collection aims to further support Frontiers’ strong community by shining a spotlight on our authors' highly impactful research.

In this firsthand account of life in the United States over a period of nearly a hundred years, the only constant is change. World War I brought to an abrupt end the society in which the author had grown up, leaving in its place a society whose values were the antithesis of the old. This was only the first of a series of shock waves that have succeeded one another with breathtaking swiftness throughout this century. Against this background, we observe the difficulties of a child with an inquiring mind in an authoritarian household, the efforts of a young woman to fit herself into a role for which she had had no preparation, the strategies by which she brought herself through a decade of economic stagnation, and finally the satisfactions of a marriage that has endured for fifty years. The theme of the middle years is the search for meaningful work, a goal that was elusive until it was freed from the need to earn a living. The subsequent years have been years of quiet fulfillment, unspectacular but rich in personal relationships, with rewards no less real for being intangible. After ninety years Mrs. Rogers still found life good. Read this book and take heart.
