Introducing Comprehensive Neurosurgery with 118 chapters organized into 8 sections in two volumes and each section has been reviewed by eminent neurosurgeons. This book is meant to serve as a comprehensive guide for Neurosurgical trainees, young Neurosurgeons and those in allied disciplines who participate in neurological care. Volume 2 deals with pathology and management of tumours, increasing interest in degenerative spine in addition to spinal cord lesions and the emerging specialty, restorative neurology. This book intends to be a guide to trainees, young neurosurgeons and those in allied disciplines. Wide spectrum of neurosurgical disorders are covered with 118 chapters organized into 8...
This book provides comprehensive information on fungal infections of the central nervous system (CNS). Fungal infections are still a major public health challenge for most of the developing world and even for developed countries due to the rising numbers of immune compromised patients, refugee movements, and international travel. Although fungal infections involving the CNS are not particularly common, when they do occur, the results can be devastating in spite of recent advances and currently available therapies. Further, over the past several years, the incidence of these infections has seen a steep rise among immunodeficient patients. In this context, aggressive surgery remains the mainstay of management, but conservative antifungal drug treatment complemented by aggressive surgical debridement may be necessary. Yet the optimal management approach to fungal infections of the CNS remains controversial, owing to the limited individual experience and the variable clinical course of the conditions. Addressing that problem, this comprehensive book offers the ideal resource for neurosurgeons, neurologists and other specialists working with infectious diseases.
Written and edited by leading international authorities in the field, this book provides an in-depth review of knowledge of the incidental findings of the nervous system, with emphasis on asymptomatic brain and spinal lesions that have the potential to cause illness. It includes very informative chapters, organized into four main groups: first, incidental findings of the brain and cranium, including intracranial, intraventricular and skull base lesions, infarcts and calcification; secondly, incidental findings of the spine and spinal cord, including spinal cord tumors, syringomyelia, arteriovenous malformations and craniovertebral junction anomalies; thirdly, incidental findings of the spina...
This book provides an in-depth review of knowledge of the corpus callosum, called white matter or terra incognita, with emphasis on anatomical, embryological, diagnostics, and surgical features. It includes very informative chapters from leaders in the field, organized into six main groups: first, the embryology, neuroanatomy, and morphometry of the corpus callosum, and animal studies related to it; secondly, neurophysiological aspects, callosal disconnection and the split brain; thirdly, neuropathology, including clinical disorders such as dementia, Tourette syndrome, and schizophrenia; fourthly, surgical procedures including partial and complete callosotomy and commissurotomy; fifthly, cog...
This volume of Progress in Clinical Neurosciences emphasizes on topics of common interest such as trauma and evidence-based neuro-oncology. Chapters on advances in MRI, newer radiation modalities such as CyberKnife and the search for new chemotherapeutics for brain tumours provide in-depth knowledge of the current trends. The chapters on an evidence-based approach to neurological examination, legal quantification of disability, myelopathies, CSF circulation disorders and painful ophthalmoplegias will be of interest to postgraduates as well as clinicians. Chapters on cervical disc disease and MCA aneurysm throw light on emerging debates.
The first book to be published in this region, it describes the scientific basis of the procedures, as also their indications, scope and limitations. Alternative approaches available for various disease entities are included.
This book provides an in-depth review of the knowledge of craniospinal arachnoid cysts, with emphasis on epidemiology, genetics, neuroimaging, clinical presentations, and operative management. Sections on postoperative complications, outcome, and medicolegal aspects of this entity are also included. This richly illustrated book will help the reader in choosing the most appropriate way to manage this challenging neurosurgical disease process. This work also considers future areas of investigation and innovative therapeutic philosophies. This comprehensive reference book will be an ideal source for neuroscientists at all levels of their training in multiple different disciplines, from graduate students to specific research scientists studying this topic, including neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuroradiologists, pediatricians, and those seeking both basic and more sophisticated information regarding craniospinal arachnoid cysts.
This book is the most comprehensive (and possibly the first) manual on ‘Rhino-Orbito-Cerebral Mucormycosis (ROCM) that covers mucormycosis of the nose extending to sinuses, orbit, and brain, all in. This volume covers the surge of cases during the COVID-19 pandemic, early identification and causative factors, microbiology, pathology and radiology, and the clinical presentation. Notes on surgical approaches, extent, and techniques of debridement, number of sittings, antifungal therapy, complications, and their management equip readers to manage these cases confidently. Detailed descriptions of ROCM surgery accompanied by nearly 500 photographs and anatomical drawings help support diagnostic...
This book provides a unique tool for approaching cranio-vertebral junction (CVJ) surgery. Following a brief introduction to the relevant anatomy and biomechanics of CVJ, it explores the field of cranio-vertebral junction lesions and their management. Furthermore, individual chapters cover endovascular surgery, endoscopic skull base techniques, navigation and robotics, ensuring that surgeons stay up-to-date. A chapter addressing the consequences of CVJ surgery with regard to sagittal balance is of particular importance. The book is structured according both to the type of lesion involving the CVJ (tumor, trauma), and to the type of surgical approach (anterior, posterior). Further, it reflects innovative treatment modalities that have improved patient safety and efficacy rates for surgery involving the CVJ, and covers both open and minimally invasive surgical methods, enabling surgeons to hone their skills in both areas.
